Meantime Brew Master, Alastair Hook, has spent 20 years planning the quintessential English lager. His reasoning is simple. The great European lager brewers use very soft water and neutral yeasts to ensure that only the flavours of their locally grown malt and hops come to the fore. East Anglia is home to the world’s finest malting barley and Kent is home to some of the world’s best hops. Midway between the two, London is ideally placed to bring them together in a straightforward, clean, long-matured, unpasteurised lager, where all you can taste is malt and hop.

Looks like a lager, quite light and nice short white head. Smell has some hint of iron. Hmm, I’m not sure if that is good sign. Taste is light, too watery I would say. Aroma has basement, with tiny bit of sugar on top. This beer fails to be pleasing because it does made to be too mediocore.

This is a regular ’premium lager’. Sweet, light, corn, grass. Not too much more than that.

UPDATED: APR 17, 2016 330ml bottle. Pale golden colour with a thin white head, disappears fast. Aroma is light malt, grains, hay, fruity notes. Taste is pale malts, hops, light citrus notes. Low bitterness. For a lager it’s pretty good.

33cl bottle. Pours clear golden, minimal white head. Aroma is light, some malts, quite bland. Taste is pretty bad, some malts again, feels like a random industrial lager. Unpleasant aftertaste. Disappointing.

Pale appearance. Carbonation added to taste. Bready taste. Good strength and fair on palate. Would love to try a pint. All in all not bad.

pint draught @ Greenwich Union, London. Light amber colour, no head. Great hoppy taste with malts coming through not too much. Everything is in balance. Great beer!

33cl bottle@boat on the Thames in plastic glass@approx 7 degrees Pours golden yellow with quickly residing white head. Somewhat stale smell of bread and wheat. Bready flavour as well with very faint hops and a taste suggesting the use of maize or rice - especially in the aftertaste. Medium to low carbonation, unfresh and slightly heavy without being decidedly off. A disappointment.
