COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle and keg - force carbonated. Is available cask conditioned. Cold fermented and lagered.
Ingredients: Pale ale malt, pale crystal malt, and Munich malt: Cascade, Cluster, and Goldings hops.

One hundred and fifty years ago the new bitter beer style, Pale Ale, was so popular that brewers had to import Californian hops to meet demand. Meantime London Pale Ale continues that tradition by combining lots of American Cascade and Centennial hops to give it a complex citrus aroma and buckets full of local Kentish Goldings to provide the bitterness that makes the style so refreshing. Together they conspire to assail the nose with a complex, heady mix of spearmint, grass and ‘hop sack’ aromas, fruity citrus flavours and a bitter finish that makes pale ale drinking a truly rewarding experience.

Bottle. Poured a pretty standard pale. Not much of an aroma, or taste for that matter. Thought it was pretty weak.

UPDATED: MAY 15, 2013 Quite tasty pale ale, nothing too special. Nice woody tones, citrus, malt etc. Refreshing. Don’t drink it too cold.

On tap at Kick. A small, dense off-white head sits on top of an almost clear golden body. The aroma is perfumed and citrusy, too perfumed for my likings. Lightly malty. The flavor has a piney touch, with malty sweetness, a faint bitterness and some biscuit notes. Some tropical fruits blend in. Medium to thin body, soft carbonation. Some bitterness in the otherwise fruity finish. Far from the must exciting beer I’ve had, but it drinks easily and slakes the thirst. 130427

330ml Bottle from Utobeer, Borough Market (£2.50):
Light with some grassy hops and a subdued malt base to begin with. There was some light fruity notes in the background but to be honest it smelt a bit basic although still pleasant and most definitely an English pale ale in smell; if only it was stronger in smell.
Light & clear range tinged amber with a thumb sized, bubbly white head that stays quite well over the opening couple of minutes, only reducing slightly in size.
A balanced beer with some light malts and a grassy hop taste initially along with some background fruits and a nice bitter finish. This one was a nice and very easy to drink beer but I felt it could have been more in your face and less subdued. There was floral notes and caramel.
Carbonation is about medium to lively with this one and the beer is probably light bodied with a very smooth mouthfeel and only the slightest of citrus tangs to go with a somewhat dry finish. Livelier than usual for the style but much as you would expect.

A nice and well made beer I felt it was a little weak in both taste and smell although things became more pronounced and noticeable the further down the glass. There was a nice floral hop and malt base but to be honest nothing in this beer was strong enough for me and it’s not a classic.

330ml bottle bought at CitySuper in Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui.

Clear orange amber colour; Very thin head and residual white foam which fades in 20 seconds; Minimal lacing with notable carbonation; Smell of ale malt, grapefruit, light peaches and light grassy hops; Very light sweet taste of thin malt, with light orange, thin grapefruit, yeast, light citrus, light grass and hint of wet cardboard; Light body, thin palate; Hop bitterness is quite weak for an English Ale, very thin aroma and bitterness. Yawn. Quite dry after taste, very easy to mouth.

Comments: My first taste from this brewery and with previous good stuffs like Hitachino Nest Pale Ale and Brooklyn East IPA, this one is below average and unimpressive: its hoppiness is the most disappointing of all, with flat and thin grapefruit smell / taste and nearly no bitterness. For more than 3 US dollars apiece, I rather have something better and cheaper than this.

330ml bottle. Slightly cloudy copper with a thin off-white head. Decent if unremarkable aroma with hops and a little yeast. Flavours of citrus, perhaps some peach. A good amount of hops and enough bitterness to counterbalance the real sweetness this beer has. A good pale ale, pretty well balanced.

Decent beer. Easy session beer but with a bit more taste then the average pale ale. Got it when I was living in London at Waitrose.
