SDalkoholic (1186), Chula Vista, California, USA Oct 22, 2007 Bottle from Ashur liquor. This barely popped open with no sound explosion, so I knew from the get go it was going to be a little flat than I’m used to. Anyways, it had a minor sweetness and coffee aroma without any real backbone to support it fully. The flavor is more or less the same without any real substance for me to try and begin to define. Plain and ordinary which makes for a boring porter especially for the price i paid. travita (1851), Frisco, Texas, USA Oct 18, 2007 Dark Mahogany colors with a quickly going head. Strong sweet malty smell. Warming alcohol feel. Malty taste with some chocolate and coffee.
chimay67 (30), hunt sta, New York, USA Oct 17, 2007 Corked 750, pours a huge almond head. Nice roasty malt across the tounge. finishes dry like a good English Porter should. Very solid. BBD on collar of 1.11.08. Haven’t had a traditional London Porter in a while, glad I gave this one a shot. Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Oct 10, 2007 750mL bottle. Poured clear, raspberry iced tea brown with a short-lived cap of beige head. The aroma picked up semi-sweet chocolate and cocoa with darker fruits and some cola.. moderate roast.. not bad, but not good. The flavor found semi-sweet chocolate and sour darker fruits.. left a tacky, sour, vinegary dark fruit finish.. there was something wrong with this one. Shy of medium-bodied on the palate and sour.. never managed even the slightest level of cohesion.. ugly finish. This seemed quite off. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA Oct 9, 2007 Bottle. Very dark brown body with a ¼ inch loose firm head. Very fine looking for a porter. Nose-rich and porter like, sweet tarts, dusty, musty, light tobacco, very mild malts. Taste-light chocolate, malt powder, medium bitter on the backend, dries cherries, light creamed coffee, thin grape juice. An absolutely perfect example of the style. When I envision a London porter, this is what I think of. If I rated to style, this would get a 19/20. But, I a’int scoring to style, so there ya go. Tejas (693), Dallas, Texas, USA Oct 7, 2007 Good appearance. Fruity smell and flavor. Little bitter and roasty finish. Maybe to fruity for me. More roastiness would be good but still a solid really drinkable porter. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Sep 30, 2007 750, corked and caged. Black. Thick, moussy tan head that hangs around and leaves dense sheets of lace down the sides of the glass. Nice mild chocolate nose. Medium body, subdued carb, restrained flavors on the attack, but the mid-palate opens things right up with chocolate and roast. Light nutty undertones and a fairly tidy little herbal hop bitter cling to the finish. Nice stuff. You won’t find many prettier bottles. Schultsc (478), Henderson, Nevada, USA Sep 26, 2007 Pours a deep mahogany brown with dark garnet highlights and a thin, medium-fine, light tan head. Distinct, unmistakable aroma of chocolate (with both the creaminess of milk and the bitterness of dark) with rich dark fruits, faint roasted grain, and a subtle tangy edge. Creamy chocolate/mocha flavors with subtle berry fruit, mild toasted grain, and a touch of sweetness, Fairly light body with good substance and a lot of structure. The flavors take turns playing their parts in the long, complex finish.
