Commercial Description:
Avaailable on Keg and in 750ml bottles.
George Washington was a big fan of imported English Porter. By 1769 he'd lost his taste for British beers. After all, it was keeping the Redcoats fighting. Our Porter is based on a recipe from 1750. We bring you the original aromas and flavours of the beer that made London the world's brewing capital, flavours we know Washington would have loved. Time, care and attention have enabled us to produce a blend of beers bringing you the flavour of the 1750's. Share this beer with friends and enjoy with barbeques, fish or shellfish. The ruby colour & bottle conditioning are proof of its heritage and authenticity.

Big coarse light brown head doesn’t last. Deep dark red barely translucent body. Fruity metallic sweetish earthy spicy licorice aroma with wooden vinuous notes. Quite complex. Sweet burnt peppery taste of wood, roasty malts and licorice with metallic notes. Strange, unbalanced mouthfeel. Dry, peppery roasty medicinal aftertaste. Very nice, and quite strange. (0.75l bottle.)

Does not follow stlye guidelines for ADD beer drinker. Have to pay far too much attention to details that seem to flit away as does the remainder of my brain ... Decent body - on tap and though I didn’t really note such, was told that "it’s starting to go south". Hell, it made it to Texas. After going through porters, stouts and brown ales and saying "roasty" and other rubbish. I’ll leave it to you to see if you like it. I thought it was fine if not super fine.

Bottle, 75cl. Dark brown colour with a tan head. Aroma is smokey with banana and dried fruits. Roasted flavour with notes of nuts & liquorice. Slightly sourish.

Brown/black with a nice head. The aroma has nice notes of roasted malt and chocolate. The mouthfeel is semi-oily and the flavour has like the aroma mainly chocolate, roasted malt and a hint of licorice. It has a nice bitterness. It’s a really nice porter, but if I were to drink the entire bottle myself, I think it should be a bit to monotonous and lack complexity.

Caged and corked 750ml bottle; The initial pour produced a nice solid topping of foam (subsequent pours weren’t quite as productive). The beer itself is deeply crimson-brown and light struggles to penetrate it. Although a bit chalky, the aroma is one of a nice bitter chocolate. There’s a bit of the chocolate on the tongue, as well ... with twists of strawberry licorice, espresso, and a tight finish. This is some good stuff. (#2767, 4/1/2007)

750ml bottle enjoyed during the 3rd annual St. Pat’s day celebration. Pours clear and very much reminds me of maple syrup with a light head. The aroma is nice with roasted malt and molasses. Flavor is lightly sweet with roasted malt and molasses just as the aroma suggests, though there is more of a sweetness than I would have imagined. Well balanced and blended hops. Fairly light bodied…balanced comes to mind again. Very drinkable.

Draught. Dark red with a thin head. Aromas of chocolate, smoke, nail polish, caramel. Very thin in body. A bit tart in flavor with green apple, cocoa and a hint of smoke. Unless I got a sub par pint, this beer is drastically over rated IMO.

Dark, nearly as dark ruby brown as a stout with a reasonable light tan head. The nose is appealing. Big chocolate malts and only the slightest bit of roasty astringency. Sweet with a good measure of floral hops providing balance more than the roast. The mouthfeel is about spot on. Reasonable viscosity with low carbonation make for a drinkable brew. The flavor is not bad, but unfortunately a bit off. Big creamy chocolate malt, very little roast, a little astringency and then some healthy measure of diacetyl. It’s heavy in the creamy finish. It’s hard not to notice in the lingering chocolate roast aftetaste. a good beer, not bad, but some tidying up could make this a really excellent porter.
