YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA May 5, 2006 Not too shabby. A thin beige head rested atop a dark brown body. Aroma held notes of smoke, dried fruit, hops, roasted malt, chocolate, toasted nuts. Medium body and smooth feel. The flavor had some sweetness balanced with a dry and bitter finish. blankboy (3165), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 29, 2006 Bottle shared with HogTownHarry & Dave B. -- courtesy of Dave B. Pours a dark reddish-brown with a large lasting foamy off-white head. Dry aroma of roasted malt, fruit and chocolate. Flavour’s also dry and roasty along with some yeast, coffee and a nice slightly hoppy and chocolatey finish. Medium bodied. Pretty different then what I expected from a "London Porter" and although it was quite simple, it was very pleasant. Barrabass (31), Karlstad, Sweden Apr 29, 2006 Beige, Lacing diminishing head. Dark brown almost black colour. Smells old furnitures and bacon. Taste smokey and dark chocolate. Notes of cofee and a nice warming alcohol feeling. larsniclas (3383), Gothenburg, Sweden Apr 29, 2006 Bottled.
Black, firm beige head.
Salt, coffee, licorice, chocolate... in both aroma and flavour.
Feels refreshing with a full body. kramer (2407), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 27, 2006 25 oz bottle. Pours a translucent brown with a thinish beige head that receded to a thin covering. Aroma is fairly light with chocolate malt, caramel, dry yeastiness, and some hoppiness. Flavor is fairly hoppy up front for a Porter with alot of chocolate malt, and some toffee and coffee. Finish is dry and a little chalky with some husky graininess. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate fizzy carbonation. A little watery late in the finish. Overall, drinkable but not a favorite. The more I had of it though, the more it grew on me. SSSteve (2049), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Apr 27, 2006 Updated: Apr 29, 2006pours looks thin. reddish brown. the head is brown in some areas and white in others. a very hoppy aroma with just a hint of roasty chocolate. very dry and chalky. bitter at first turning sweet. tons of coffee, roasted nut, chocolate, and hop notes. surprisingly robust and med-full bodied even though the aroma was very weak and the pour was thin. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Apr 26, 2006 Bottle (750ml). Shared with blankboy and Dave B, Dave’s bottle. Poured very dark mahogany with a huge beige head. Aroma is VERY dry, lots of yeast, toasty malt, plenty of dry UK hops, some appleseed bitterness, with hints of chocolate and coffee, even a bit of lactose - unusual and solid. Taste is similar to the aroma, yeasty and tart apricot on top of the light chocolate - interesting. Mouthfeel is average, roasty - nice. Really liked it, unusual - thanks, Dave! notalush (2628), Denver, Colorado, USA Apr 24, 2006 The first porter I’ve ever had from a corked 750, not that that makes a bit of difference - deep ruby color, with thin but lasting lace - very dry, espresso-like aroma, with some background date and fig, some chocolate - quite bright and fruity at first, but this settles as a dry, cocoa-like flavor and abundant dark roast coffee settle in - a very gentle, refined, subtle english porter - I like it very much.
