Commercial Description:
Avaailable on Keg and in 750ml bottles.
George Washington was a big fan of imported English Porter. By 1769 he'd lost his taste for British beers. After all, it was keeping the Redcoats fighting. Our Porter is based on a recipe from 1750. We bring you the original aromas and flavours of the beer that made London the world's brewing capital, flavours we know Washington would have loved. Time, care and attention have enabled us to produce a blend of beers bringing you the flavour of the 1750's. Share this beer with friends and enjoy with barbeques, fish or shellfish. The ruby colour & bottle conditioning are proof of its heritage and authenticity.

Aroma is not signifcant. The flavor is complex. Caramel, lots of malt, a little graininess in the finish. Excellently flavored and not too sweet. One of, if not, the best porters I’ve ever had.

25 oz bottle. Pours a translucent brown with a thinish beige head that receded to a thin covering. Aroma is fairly light with chocolate malt, caramel, dry yeastiness, and some hoppiness. Flavor is fairly hoppy up front for a Porter with alot of chocolate malt, and some toffee and coffee. Finish is dry and a little chalky with some husky graininess. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate fizzy carbonation. A little watery late in the finish. Overall, drinkable but not a favorite. The more I had of it though, the more it grew on me.

Dark brown coloured body with a really bright ruby tint. Nice light tan head that tops the beer nicely. Aroma of strong malt, grapes, alcohol, nuts and a light spice. Medium-bodied; Mellow sweetness with a good malt backbone with some subtle fruity flavours. Aftertaste shows a bit of the nuttiness and some malt, but leaves the mouth dry and refreshed - not bitter at all. Overall, a good beer - missing some parts, definitely...but worth trying! I sampled this 75 cL bottle shared with Jon[r888710] purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in Washington, D.C. on 10-October-2005.

750ml corked and caged bottle - Pours brown with a creamy tan head that stays pretty well and laces the sides of the glass. Aromas of yeast, hops, light coffee, and some roasted malts. Flavor is roasted malts, caramel, a touch of chocolate and some coffee. Yeast and hops in the fore and roasted malts throughout, but the lingering sweet aftertaste of chocolate and coffee is what you are left with. Palate is medium bodied and somewhat creamy. I found this surprisingly better than I anticipated.

Pours a brilliantly clear deep brown color that shows a deep ruby color when held up to the light. The head is frothy and is a light brown color. The aroma is malty with notes of chocolate, fresh toasted bread, lightly roasted coffee, and a hint of astringent burn grain; the aroma is quite nice and enjoyable, though it is a bit on the subtle side of things.

The taste is lightly sweet up front with a palate that has a certain fullness to it, despite being quite light. The beer finishes with a dry burnt grain character and a solid dark chocolate note. Up front this tastes of sweetened black coffee, it also has note of biscuit malt and brown malt. The finish is quite nice, with a complex malt profile. Up front it is not quite so complex though, even a bit simplistic. The mouthfeel is too thin and the beer is a bit too sweet; both of these clash and downplay the nice malt profile, which is in the finish.

BCA (from Sainsburys). Initially this is fairly malty with earthy hops, caramel and a little nutty roast. Fairly dry and quite drinkable in the mouth with building roastiness and a pleasantly light hoppy finish. Quite a drinkable porter in a slightly different way then many.

Brown Coloring with Sandy Head. Smoked Coffee Roast and Bittersweet Malt Throughout. Solid Body. This Porter Has Very Nice Flavors and Lots of Presence and Has What You Would Standardize in a Porter but Perhaps Not Something You Would Drink Often or Alot of. The Same Way I Feel About Anchor Porter.

Bottle. Dark opaque brown. Strongly roasted malt, almost smokey, with notes of coffee and chocolate. Medium bodied and smooth. Nicely balanced with an initially sweetness that is overtaken by a firm bitterness.
