"Meantime’s London Stout is very much an old London beer as it would be made today."

Aroma has coffee, roasted notes and some licorice. Flavour is rather malty and slightly sour with coffee, some semi‐dark chocolate and licorice. A bit watery palate. Decent.

Bottle. Waitrose. Dark red. Tan head that starts off thick, and bubbly, then settles, and firms up nicely. Dark fruit. Light roast. A little tartness. Taste is dry, and a little tart. Medium body. Bit too much fizz. Finishes dry, with the tartness lingering.

500ml bottle. Pours really dark brown, with a brown head. Roasted, malty aroma, coffee beans chocoate, licorice, caramel, faint hops, quite spicy. Almost dry, medium body and bitterness, balanced CO2. Roasted, spicy taste, caramel, coffee, chocolate, hops ashes. Well balanced, nicely dry and robust. (2014-10-24)

500ml bottle served in a snifter glass. A: Beautiful bottle art. Nice purple cap and label. Pours a deep black color forming a small beige head that dissipates quite quickly. Not much lacings but a small layer remains for a long time S: Coffee! Delicious. roasted malts, dark chocolate, yeasts and... COFFEE! :) T: Follows the nose. Roasted malts, dark chocolate. A mild sweet upfront and a bitter roasted end, and... COFFEEE! M: Watery medium to low body. Mild sweet upfront and a delicious mild roasted bitter aftertaste O: Very drinkable. Indicated to coffee lovers... [ BA Review @ 7/24/2012 ]

Bottle shared with McTapps. Classic stout with decent chocolate in the back, some earthy moments and some roasted malt. Light and watery though therefore not really a full bodied background. Drinkable, would like to try a second one for a more deeper look.

Bottle from Waitrose in East Cowes. Pours out of the bottle in a deep black colour with steady low ehad and medium body. Aroma of woods, torf and malt. Taste of roasted malt, torf, dark roasted barley, oak, leaves and woods. Dry, oaky and roasty finish. Drinkable, but I expected more.

UPDATED: AUG 2, 2014 Bottle, 500 ml. Pours jet black with a fair amount quickly dissipating tan head. Roasted/burnt malts, chocolate and an earthen note make up most of the aroma, which also has a hint of caramel. Taste is a little more complex and actually not quite what I was expecting from the aroma; after an initial chocolate/malty hit, some fruitier notes come surging forward, these being of a sour nature. Finish is bone dry and quite bitter, with a metallic edge that I’ve found to be a frequent presence in Meantime’s concoctions. Bit too sharp on the palate due to the sour notes and the carbonation, and feels a bit thin bodied, but nice tasting overall.
