wunderbier (1266), Tampere, Finland Mar 5, 2008 Pours a clear, medium copper hue with an initially large head made of a tight, white foam. Even from a cold bottle there was a slow creep of foam after the initial opening, indicating the excess carbonation to be found in this beer. Chunky base malt gives a solid backdrop to tropical fruits and bright herbs. There’s also some grass and leather in the mix. Perhaps a tinge of eucalyptus as well. The flavour is quite similar to the aroma, especially with a eucalyptus tinge to the finish, but is entirely disrupted by the massive amount of carbonation. Flavour can only be detected initially and in the aftertaste; otherwise, the beer quickly foams up in the mouth. A bug? Maybe, but the flavours don’t seem that weird. Light to medium bodied with an indiscernible texture and insanely aggressive carbonation.
