COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Availabale on draught (keg) and in 330ml bottles. Also sold as Sainsbury’s Raspberry Wheat.
NOTE: This is not the same beer as Raspberry Grand Cru.
Based on a pale, lightly hopped wheat beer, the refreshingly crisp fruitiness, aroma and rich colour come from the addition of fresh raspberry puree during maturation. Balancing tartness with sweetness, on its own it is a delicious aperitif, as well being as a great partner for goat’s cheese, rich pate or anything chocolatey.

Bottle, from Hogsback store, at JF’s Calcutta Cup mini tasting - 02/02/13. Hazed crimson with a thin white head that clears to bubbles around the edge. Nose is slightly soured raspberries, light sugar, Ribena, raspberry syrup. Taste is tarte raspberries, some sugars, light mineral tones. Medium bodied, spritzy carbonation, sweet in the finish. Ok for what it is - bit of a palate cleanser and probably refreshing on a hot summers day/BBQ.

(Bottle) Hazy ruby orange with big white head. Unusual aroma: funk, vinous and sharp fruit. Light and refreshing with big loose carbonation. Dominant flavour is sour fruit, and not just subtly sour, which resolves itself as raspberries after the initial assault has subsided. There are some interesting earthy notes - tobacco and licorice maybe. There are also some vinous, vinegary notes. The finish though is a pleasant mildly tart fruitiness with no hint of bitter. Overall it is a little confronting in taste, and even aroma, but it does dare to be different and it largely works.

bouteille 33cl, BB 12-07-2013.

(bottle from Sainsburys, Lee Green) Pours reddish/amber with a white frothy head, mostly lasting. Aroma/taste is of course Raspberry and wheat which at first seems very sweet on the palate but then a sour finish. Medium to light body and Not really my kind of beer but interesting nonetheless.
