COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
330ml bottles and Keg. Formerly known as Meantime Vienna. Also includes Cascade hops as well as those mentioned below.
100 years ago Pilseners, Müncheners and Viennese lagers formed a trio of major lager styles brewed in central Europe. Gradually the lighter Pilseners swept all before them and Vienna style beers fell into an undeserved decline.
Traditional Bavarian Perle and Spalter hops and delicately coloured malts produce a deep copper coloured beer with a firm fruity caramel aroma, a smooth complex malt character and a long crisp clean finish. This beer is slow fermented and cold-matured over long periods to ensure perfect balance and gentle natural carbonation. Union goes with bread and wheat based foods such as pizza and pasta or more mid-weight dishes like duck or noodle stir-fry.

Bottle 33cl, a clear amber beer with good creamy head. Nose is very malty, toasted with acrid notes. Aroma is caramel like, dry, malty, quite hopy for the style, lot of vienna malt a bit acrid notes, not bad but less round to be really great.

Copper clear, thin head. Smells of hay, malts and burned. Taste is medium malty, some sweetness, dry feel. Good bitter finish. Just a little boring that’s all

0.33l bottle. The Union pours a clear dark coppery body with a medium bubbly off-white head. Aroma is dark malty with notes of wet old grass and leafs, thin chocolate paper, light yeast and some really ripe plums and dark burned caramel. Average carbonation, medium to light-bodied and it has a oily mouthfeeling. Tastes dark malty with some thin caramel and it has an unfortunate metallic and burned aftertaste. Can’t see how this has won any awards..

Bottle: Light, reddish mahogany colour that is quite clear. There is a small half-centimetre, light brown head that is quickly reduced to a soapy lacing.
Sweet caramel is the first thing you smell, this is blended with some background citrus aroma. There is a nice sweet malt smell that works well together with the dark summer fruits lingering at the back.
Warm sweet malts, a nice strong hop character and a mix of caramel & toffee all blend together nicely here to great a very well balanced beer that is a pleasure to drink. The finish has almost no bitterness to it & helps produce a very clean aftertaste.
On the light side of medium bodied and has a great, chewy texture to it that is smooth in parts. The carbonation levels are excellent.

Very good indeed, the beers main advantage over others is that it is incredibly well balanced throughout. It has a good, solid flavour and an excellent feel to it.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Valkendorfsgate, Bergen. First rating from Meantime coming up; this is a brewery that seems to be "craft-oriented" but is listed as "commercial brewery" here on RB so I’m kinda curious to make my own opinion about the level of craft represented. :-) Pours a deep, near-brown orange body with a small white head. Aroma is extremely faint, with only a few malty tones barely making it into my nostrils. Taste is slightly better; roasted malts, hints of caramel and toffee. Still weak. All in all a pleasant but mediocre vienna-style lager. Oh well, for this one my expectations were rather low.

Bottle: Almost clear, small stable off-white head, copper to amber coloured; dry dark-malty to roasty nose, suppressed hops detectable; light to moderate dry bitter flavour, light bodied; hints of bitter-chocolate in the relatively short bitter and dark-malty finish, followed by a hoppy tail. Good......
