3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle condtioned, 500ml from Sainsbury’s, Banbury. Black with ruby hue, brown head. Full bodied Porter, heavy, roasty malty body, pleasantly dry, burnt notes, quite charry coffee notes. A little powdery on the palate leading to a bitter, long finsh. Went really well with Steak & Onions. Good stuff.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled. A black beer with very little head. The aroma is very smoky burnt. Like a winter fireside. The taste is roasty with deep dark fruits. Plenty of burnt malts. Very nice and a suitable beer with the snow falling outside.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Small greige head, fed by well-carbonated black beer with a mauve shine. Very little aroma at first - wet cardboard. Then some roasted/burnt malts appear, as well as dried berries and old coffee powder. Very expressed (-o?) coffee taste, even aftertaste of stale coffee-and-cream. Quite bitter edge, faintly hoppy, and a bit smokey. Liquid brown sugar solution. Medium bodied at best, bit slick. Rather light porter, not very assertive.

1.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20
50 cl bottle from Systembolaget. BB 021010. Slight hazy copper color, nice tan to light brown head. Acidic and smoke scent, perhaps some lemon. Acidic to sour taste, must be infected. Thin mouthfeel, low bitterness. Too bad. Heard this was a problem with part of this batch, since the batch of old smoked bock to Sweden was infected as well, sort of gives me the idea they have huge problems.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
A winter warmer for a cold summer day in the Arctic. Bottle shared at Charley’s post-birthday party in Tromsø. Off-white head over a dark brown body. Smoked aroma with hints of grain. Dark fruits and nutty malts in flavour. Smooth bitter ending. An easy drinking porter a bit out of tune (14.06.2008).

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2011-12-10. Crisp light brown body with a nice beige head. 3+ Lightly spicy, modest malt aroma, hints at caramel? Similar flavour, light spice, nice modest malt character has muted accents of caramel or toffee, perhaps chestnuts if you look for it. Average plus bodied palate. Its a touch light for a winter warmer, my overall impression is that this is better suited for a wintery English pub night on cask, but remains pretty enoyable. Bottle shared by Tuqueboy

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle, from Sainsburys, May 2008. Dark brown. Very lively. Madly overcarbonated on the palate. Consequently rather acidic mouthfeel. Some spices. All rather hidden by the fizz. Maybe a bit vinous. Perhaps a dodgy batch. Re-rate when possible.
