3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: NOV 25, 2007 A Mes rate: 50cl bottle from Shamansburys
Opaque very dark red brown with a head that vanishes much to quickly to just a rim of off white foam. Decent coffee malt aroma but a slight soapyness lets it down. Flavour is better with lots of coffee and heavy dark chocolate. Slight lick of hops in the otherwise bitter choc finish. Decent overall but seriously lacking complexity.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle from Sainsbury, Heyford Hill, Oxford Poured looking every inch like a glass of coca cola, dark brown, bubbly and with beige head. Aroma a bit coppery like copper coins held in ones hand for a while, also I got a whiff of shandy bass. Tasted a bit smokey and sweetish but the coke similarities I mentioned earlier were in a way back again albeit another soft drink, as I got Dr Pepper, or sasparilla. I’m going against the grain I think with my review as beers go ok, as soft drinks go this is fine and a soft drink is all I thought about when I drank this.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle back to back with the London Stout. Dirty beige on clear ruby. Nice sweet roasted ashy aroma with espresso, oaky and bramble notes. Some raisin there. Faint oily hop presence, softer and fruitier than the stout but solid with roasty malts as before. Raisin and plum fruit, coffee. Feels like the same malt base as the stout. Nice roasted beer, but the body needs some plumping up. No alcohol. Pretty good.

Bottle. High creamy good looking light brown head. Very dark red almost black body. Roasted barley malt aroma with coffee notes. Coffee also dominates the flavor which does not have much hops bitterness and feels creamy in the mouth and has vineous notes. Low carbonation, long coffee aftertaste.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
(Bottle) Dark reddish brown colour with lasting, frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of dark bread, dried fruit, chocolate, some smoke and a touch of soy sauce. Malty, roasted taste with dark fruit, chocolate, coffee, dark bread and a touch smoke. Some confusing citric notes, that seem out of place. Medium body, rather dry. Slightly out of balance but still a nice beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Chelsea Pub, Parma.
Full malty beer, but much more sophisticated than most winter warmers. A stout? Perhaps. Fine hoppiness, a hint of smoke. Very yleasant, but the cork was leaky, so this is not suitable for suitcases!
