Dark brown, rapidly dissipating beige head. Mild roasted malt aroma with caramel and some port and lemon. Taste is chocolate sweet with some dark fruit backed with a gentle but insistent bitterness. Just slightly oily/ sticky body, but it’s pretty light. Dry finish with some smoke. Draws you in.

Bottle from Alko. Dark cola brown colour, off-white staying head. Very smoky malty aroma. Smoke malts also in the taste which is not as sweet as Schlenkerlas’. A bit watery ending, a bit more body would be nice there. Quite nice smoky schwarz.

UPDATED: NOV 25, 2007 A Mes rate: 50cl bottle from Shamansburys
Opaque very dark red brown with a head that vanishes much to quickly to just a rim of off white foam. Decent coffee malt aroma but a slight soapyness lets it down. Flavour is better with lots of coffee and heavy dark chocolate. Slight lick of hops in the otherwise bitter choc finish. Decent overall but seriously lacking complexity.

TBone (12458) - Pori, FINLAND - NOV 17, 2007
Bottled (BB 10/2009)
Dark ruby color, small beige head. Nose has toffee, caramel, whiskey barrel kind of vanilla. Aroma is similar to Highland Park -whiskey (sniffed side by side with this). Medium-bodied. Sweet chocolate, some smokey notes, overall quite soft. Flavors are not attacking or overwhelming. Nice beer to sip and as it is "only" 5,4 %, not alcoholic (as "winter warmers" often are).

Bottle 50 cl. Pours dark brown with off white creamy head. Strong malty roast aroma - coffee/chocoalte/dark fruits & a bit of smoke. Body is medium and soft and all around this is very pleasant & well made. Carbonation is quite british - rarely noticeable.
