COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Replaced in 2005 by Gouden Carolus Ambrio 6.5%
In the past, every town in Belgium had its own beer typical of the area. Hence, some centuries ago, the people of Mechelen drank a beer known as "Mechelschen Bruynen" or "Mechelen Brown". Our Brewery is the only one still brewing this type of beer. The recipe has its origin at the 14th century. The nowadays version is a little more heavy and contains more hops. The balance between the different malts, the fine hops and typical tastes of spices creates a perfect harmony beween the powerful taste of brown beers and the freshness of the blond beers.

33 cl. bottle sampled @ Kulminator thx! to Danko. BBF 18/06/2005. Pours a dark fox amber, small but steady off-white head. Oxidation is obvious in the nose, thinned out, metallic with some like liquorish in the back, touch watery & syrupy. Taste is quite oxidized, stale coca-cola, quite metallic, fizzy, watery, brown sugar, light liquorish, totally thinned out by age. Not the worst but largely gone now. Quite a few Anker beers keep & have kept exceptionally well, this one isn’t one of them.

3rd June 2010 - Brasserie 4:20 - Bottle thanks to Alex! Clear deep amber beer. Little white head. Light palate. Toffee dominates. Sweet, rich and dark. Not much else going on but I’m not sure it’s needed either!

Amber with a biege head. Very much fruity aromas with yeasty and woody notes. Sweet, bitterish, fruity, woody, yeasty and malty flavours. Finish is more bitter, fruity, long, sweet and has some tangy tartness. Nice full bodied beer.

Dark amber colour, rocky off-white head. Aroma is very fruity. Full body, fruity and light bitter taste. Finish is bitter and a litle sharp, ending in a sweeter alcoholical touch. After taste is dry malty. Not bad.
