1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20
Pours like carbonated urine underneath a white, fizzy head from the 12oz. bottle, but hey, when in Puerto Rico you gotta go local, right?: Aroma of corn and malts dampened by lots of water. Flavor is similar, but sweeter than I expected. Something unexpected! Bonus point for that. Drinkability: Just horrible. Rebuy: Only in Puerto Rico. #268 on 04022010, DG.

Pale golden in color with a light soapy head. Crisp, tinny malt aroma. Very little body and light in mouthfeel. Sweet malty flavor. Non-offensive and refreshing for a day in PR.

Had this on my recent trip to Puerto Rico, the most widely available beer there. The color was pale golden. The head was thin, fizzy, and white. The aroma was a little yeasty. The flavor was corny. The palate was thin bodied and watery. The finish was abrupt and lacking. It was nice to have this beer on a really hot day but just that.

It has to be kept in mind that this is a LIGHT beer. As such, to make a direct comparison to other beers is unfair. Compared with other light beers, I find this beer ranks right among them. It is a good light beer. This is also the unofficial national beer of Puerto Rico (for now) and is very much a part of everyday culture. Respect. But, when rated amongst all beers, I find it will always have the lower hand. Aroma to me was below average. No hops. No hops even in taste (nor are they meant to be there.) Taste I found slightly cooked and sweet. My taste buds almost registered a buttery taste but it was right at the threshold so acceptable. Palate light thin and fizzy but with large bubbles that rapidly disappeared as did the foam. In a nutshell, a fine light beer, especially for the tropics.

I drank a ton of bottles of this on the cruise ship in the Caribean. Light nose with some corn sweetness. This is a light refreshing beer which is well designed for the hot, humid nature of Puerto Rico. Light malt flavors with a clean finish and only a hint of bitterness in the finish. I asked and there is no Medalla regular.

Was given a six pack of cans from a co-worker. Super light, probably very refreshing under a palm tree after a nice session at Rincon . I think with this one its all about location.

Drank this one in old San Juan, decanted into a plastic cup. I know Puerto Rico makes a couple of other beers, but this was the only one I could find, and it was EVERYWHERE. The head was a thin and foamy white, which matched perfectly the piss-yellow body. Aroma was somewhat perfumed. The taste and mouthfeel were ideally suited to this light swill, as was the finish. I only drank this beer so as to "collect" another country.

Bottle: Pours a pale golden with a white fading film of head. The aroma displays some sweet grain/white bread and cereal/maize. Fizzy and thin bodied. Dryish flavor for an adjunct lager, but it’s dominated by a vacant rice flavor and has no hop bitterness. Eh.

Big thanks to rustychiles for bringing me this little canned gem from Puerto Rico. Pours about the lightest color I have ever seen a beer pour. Pretty close to a Keystone light. Surprisingly large fluffy white head that dissipates slowly. Aroma is Pilsener malt and corn. Taste is the same, but with an aftertaste that really reminds me of tortillas, which is interesting. definitely not the typical corny taste in pale lagers, which is nice, but the beer still has hardly an flavor at all and is as thin as can be on the palate. Surprisingly clean fermentation for the area. Interesting to try, not very good at all. Better than BMC.
