This Hawaiian-style European lager is most often described as being very smooth with lots of body and some bitterness. It is an all-malt brew with the tropical taste in mind. This lager has a deep copper color with a malty aroma and subtle fruitiness creating a caramel maltiness on the palate with a sweet malt aftertaste.

Draft at Cronies on the Big Island. Nice Amber color, pretty thin wispy head, no lace. Pretty weak...nasty aftertaste, not as bad as the Volcano Red, but just as bitter.

Smells bad. Does not promise anything special. Actually smells old. Lots of visible carbonation. Darkest gold to light amber in color. Off-white head. Some hop bitterness. Tastes better than it smells, although still a little thin and bland. Goes well with Havarti cheese, which brings out the hops. Not great but better than I expected.

Had at Lobar in beautiful Crested Butte. Don’t have my ratings, but I recall the overwhelming aroma and taste of vegetables....not my cup of beer.

My Dad spent Christmas on Kauai and all I got was this (mostly) lousy beer. A pretty bad aroma, but a decent flavor, although a bit spicy for a lager. Appearance was a soapy and slightly dirty looking caramel color. Aroma was mercaptan and pretty much only mercaptan - think a compost pile. Flavor was significantly better, although not great. There is a malted milk ball flavor with significant cloviness and some evidence of hops. Mouthfeel is clean and as a lager should be. I can’t really recommend this, but it is not awful and a bit unique.

12 oz bottle on board Hawaiian Airlines. Surprising amber color with a decent head. But that is where the love stopped. Aromas were rather vegital. The Flavors were similar with a sourness that I just didn’t like.
