COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mauna Kea is an American Pale Ale. The malts and hops are from the Northwest. Actual whole hops are used to give the beer a touch of floral aroma and citrus flavor. Medium copper in color, with a superbly well-balanced hop flavor, it goes well with chicken, pasta, and red meat dishes. It is named for the most majestic mountain on the island.

Frothy head doesn't last too long, but it clings to the side of the glass nicely. Hazy amber in color. Decent mouthfeel, noticeable and chewy, though not cloying. Lightly sweetened cookie dough malt flavors. Somewhat yeasty. Fruity notes of grapefruit and lemon. Bitterness surfaces in the finish. Not wonderful, but not a bad PA by any means. I'm sure it's much better at the source.

Poured from the bottle on a patio in Lahaina, maui. Had to pour into a plastic glass.... color is orange and hazy. Nice head. Aroma is malty and maybe dank or spice hops. Kind of like draught sierra nevada. Flavour is very similar. Very malty, not much hops but beats most of the lagers on the store shelf. Love sampling the local Hawaii beers anyways! Overall I’m on vacation in Maui so its literally all good!

Bottle. Cloudy golden body with a short, fizzy off-white head. Aroma of toasted grain, grapefruit, resin, vegetables. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Slight sulfur taste. Bad homebrew.

Well balanced and a nice crisp light hopped session brew. The pour is a golden and sparkly body with a little bit of off white foam. The nose is light and mildly hopped with a few grain notes. Light hop astringency and mild hop flavour with a hint of floral and citrus notes. Just a really relaxed and mild pale ale.

Hazy golden color with creamy head, and creamy lace. The aroma is a bit spicy. The mouthfeel is lean and dry; the flavor is spicy and even funky, with correct bitterness; the final is still good, but there are hints of paper.
I’m not sure it was intended, but it’s somehow a tropical Orval. Good.

Bottle@ukulele freakout BBQ with Papa Larry and Stephanie, 21/08/12- first time I played. Burnished orange gold low white head. Peachy aroma; sweet vegetables, old cherry boiled sweets. A bit dank and washy with stale orange/cherry hints. Pretty dull but better than a glue-flavoured pale lager.

Location: Draft at the Yard House - Honolulu, 7/5/12

Aroma: The aroma is fresh pine and citrus hops, with a little cracker
Appearance: Pours a cloudy golden orange color, lasting white head, light lace
Flavor: The taste is not on the same level, light hops, cracker/bread malts, mild soapiness
Palate: The body is light and a little bit thin/watery, with soft carbonation, and a short duration
Overall Impression: I certainly would have liked it more if the flavor could have lived up to the nose. This beer was okay. It wasn’t a great pale ale, but it was drinkable.

~Citrus and spicy hop flavor, bready malts. ~Pours clear golden color with quickly disappearing head. ~Bready and biscuity with light citrus and spice. ~Med light bodied, high CO2, spicy hop finish. ~Ok Pale ale, drinkable, but rather have something else.

12 oz bottle from Safeway in Maui - cloudy light orange with a nice white head. Very malty aroma. Not a ton of hops jumping out. Tastes a tiny bit metallic. Not a bad beer, but certainly not a great one. Honestly, I liked it better a few days ago when I had a cold.

From bottle, smell of malt and hops, def taste the malt also. A wonderful balance with almost a spice taste.
