In bottle at home. Pours a ruby -chestnut colour with a thin beige head. Aroma of strawberry jam, caramel, barley and biscuity malt. Interesting fruity flavour also, definite strawberry jam with some grassy hops, caramel and alcohol also. This is pretty different. Alcohol is fairly present. Mild carbonation and light CO2 prickle. Not bad.

Bottle... February in Franconia (2011)… Clear, deep amber lager with a mid-sized, fluffy, off-white head. Good retention. The complex nose is a fusion of honey, biscuit, toffee, date and fig. Full-bodied and creamy with moderate carbonation. Decently balanced for a Marzen. The hardy flavor leans sweet and offers a nice selection of malts. A semblance of balance is provided by minerally, spicy hops. Moderately sweet, nourishing finish. Thanks go out to erlangernick and Koelschtrinker for making this month of Franconia lagers possible!

Grima (2101) - Saarburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, GERMANY - JAN 29, 2011
The beer in glass is a beautiful, dark brown, reddish with a lot of fine, high foam. Smell is roasted malty with a caramel-term note. It starts roasted malt, but very quickly sweet-malty caramel with a slightly chocolaty note. The aftertaste is again intense roasty with a great caramel flavor, the perfect complement.

Bottle in Edinburgh. Powerful, malty beer, you feel they have squeezed all the goodness out of the grain here. This is as home made as the label! Freshly baked bread, a little yeast, a bitterness that’s not very pronounced, but it does its job.
