A well-balanced beer with a marked floral fruitiness coming through from the aromatic yeasts used in its production. 11.8P

12 ounce bottle purchased at Bottle Barn in Santa Rosa, CA. The date on the cap is 02/13/08. Odd, metallic lager-like aroma. Some husky, grainy malts present with a bit of a urine-like quality, too. A little sweet. Transparent copper body with a medium white, frothy head that leaves a bit of lacing. Starts a little astringent before it becomes creamy, doughy, with cereal grain malty flavors. Finishes a little metallic and a little floral. Pretty well-balanced and drinkable. Not bad.

Bottle - Pours a rich caramel brown color, with a thick tan head. Sweet caramel roast aroma. Cool fruit spice flavor with a medium/light body, not bad over all.

Brilliant amber, very little swiss-cheese head. Some malty aroma, mostly DMS. Cooked corn flavor, very bubbly. Cloying (from the malt or DMS?)

Bottle: Poured a rusty light brown with a light white head. The aroma is a caramel malt. The taste is sweet mainly malt.

Poured from bottle a clear brown with a small tannish head. Aroma was primarily caramelly malt with a bit of toast. The flavor is very one dimensional - a malty caramel flavor with not a lot of sweetness to it. No detectable bitterness or hoppiness. This beer almost taste like a non-alcoholic one the way the malt plays out with not much carbonation. A little too bland for my liking.

12 oz. bottle: Pours clear amber with a fleeting white head. The nose is caramel sweet. One dimensional. The body is the same - lots of caramel and toffee and nothing else. Seems underattenuated. Kind of like a extract homebrew that didn’t ferment out all the way. Ugh.

Pours medium amber with a nice head that lingers well, leaving some lacing. Slight haze. Aroma is pretty strong malt and honey, somewhat reminiscent of a marzen. bare hints of hops. Tastes pretty fresh for a "retired" beer. Again, sweet honey-malt characters up front, but not as strong as the aroma. Hops in the background, faint but noticeable. Much better than the original Menabrea, and something I will look for next time I am in Italy. As long as I am somewhere with other choices, I will probably not seek this one out.

Poured a dark amber with a laarge off white head. Smells of grainy corn and some iced tea came out. The taste was corny with some notes of caramel behind that. There is also a little bit of milk chocolate in the aftertaste. The light and thin body is ok for this style. The flavors are a little to close to a bad American Dark Lager for my tastes.
