COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We have been driven by our passion for brewing high-quality hand-crafted ales since we started in 1983 as the first brewpub in California since prohibition. Over the past three decades we honed our skills to master the art of creating Legendary Ales. To celebrate 30 years as Pioneers in the American Craft Brewing Renaissance, we present a Limited Edition of three Anniversary Ales that pay homage to the heart of beer - Hops. Our first Anniversary Ale honors the Cascade hop that started it all and changed the way people view American Craft Beer. This hop has an intense floral with a spice and clean finish. We brewed this Pale Ale with multiple additions of Cascade during the boil, then topped it off with generous dry-hopping to give you an exceptional experience. Savor this Limited Edition Anniversary Pale Ale, the first of three unique ales that will herald our celebrations. This is an ale 30 years in the making - You deserve the best.

Pours a copper color. Medium retention and strong lacing. Smell is faint and only smells of sweet malt and some hops. Very citrus tasting. Lots of pineapple and hops. Slight malty sweetness. Good mouth feel. No real good long lasting taste. Goes away rather quickly. Good beer, but was hoping for more from an Anniversary Edition. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22oz bottle. Pours a hazy dark amber with a white head. Floral, grapefruit, pine, caramel. It tasted a little off, had some candy notes. Not something I would try again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from a bomber from Blackwells. Dark orange with white head. Dank musty grapefruity and citrisu aroma. Taste is a bit off. Dull. Hoppy and bitter. Not bad but not as good as I hoped for.

Tap at the Freehouse in Berkeley

Fresh and unfiltered and amply dry-hopped, cascade can blossom into a leafy floral delight that goes way beyond the orange and pine resin for which it is better known. This beer, pushing IPA territory for ABV and hop levels, is a great example of what Cascade hops can do. This one was worth a couple of pints tonight; I just wish it was a bit more sessionable as my taste buds were quite eager to keep going when my better judgement said stop.

Hazy amber beer, small pale cream coloured head. Palate is smooth and dry with good fine carbonation. Smooth dry malt, trace of unsweet toffee. Light marmalade hops. Finishes smooth and dry with a mild bitterness. It’s okay but a little bit too understated.

Slightly hazy tangerine orange with a foamy, long lasting white head. An initial hit of piney, catty hops, but it disappears quickly and there’s only a light scent of spicy green, a bit of cooked veg and sweet malt. There a good pine/earth bitterness that settles on the tongue quickly but it doesn’t dominate the flavor which is mostly caramel sweetness with a touch of cream and vanilla. The body seems a bit watery. There’s a nice lingering aftertaste of pine and citrus hops that wraps this up in style. The bottle artwork is beautiful! Reading the description it appears that we have 2 more anniversary ales coming out, but I can’t seem to find any mention of when. I’ll be looking forward the next and Happy Anniversary Mendocino Brewing!!

Bottle - A bit of grain and sweet fresh grapefruit. Pale gold with a bubbly white head. A bit of orange and spice are in the nose as well. Nice malty sweetness, almost honey like, followed by grapefruit/pine hops. A surprisingly subtle ale, I thought this would end up as an IPA, but the malts keep it in check.

Bottle; orange-amber in color with a frothy head. Aroma of pine, earth, citrus, and spice; a nice Cascade profile. Flavor was fairly mellow at times with a decent hop presence in the finish. Not sweet or overly malty, almost bland in the backbone, with some earthiness, fruit and spice in the finish. Not bad at all and very drinkable.
