Ibrew2or3 (1685), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Nov 1, 2007 On tap at Barclay’s in Berkeley, CA. Pours a dull amber with gold edges and lasting tan head. Nice strength aroma of dark fruitiness, roasted malts, mild caramel and faint spices. The taste is similar to the aroma with prunes, dates and plums mixed with roasted malts and sweet caramelized malts. Nice rich malty offering of the style. The sweetness does build up a bit but not bad at all for the style. jstraw (435), Oak Park, Illinois, USA Sep 29, 2007 Copper with good, creamy beige head / Lightly sweet, malt nose / Medium body with hop backbone and good finish / Flavors of burnt sugar, tangerine, and a touch of pine on the finish / Surprisingly good effort from Mendocino. bsierra (164), Vista, California, USA Mar 20, 2008 as always Mendocino’s seasonal are an impressive lot. very deep velvet amber hues and a luscious dark fruit and earthy malts give this Marzen a very good holiday drinkability. it still holds up long after thanksgiving, trust me....now why would I lie to ya acrdz (4285), Boulder, Colorado, USA Aug 27, 2007 Medium dark copper brown colored body with a tan head. The nose is very fresh, and is mostly just a straightforward malt profile – biscuit malts, maple, wood, some moderate squash notes, some hay and corn… very fresh, very well-made and enticing. Flavor has some sweaty grains, hay, corn and squash up front, then some caramelized plum and wood notes. Medium bodied, with light roast and toasted grains and oak in the finish – resiny plum and wood, even. One of the better O-fests I’ve had in recent days. redlight (1048), Winter Park, Florida, USA Sep 7, 2007 Good malty nose, caramelly, with an earthy spice. Pours a rich amber with a thin white head. Smooth, delicately hopped to give it a spiciness, big malt flavor throughout, caramelly upfront, with a nuttiness and a great crisp bite. A good oktoberfest.
