Black Hawk Stout retains the big traditional flavors of an Irish-style stout and yet offers a refreshing dry crispness that is rare in many dark beers. "Bottle Conditioned" Black Hawk Stout is replete with a rich, roasted malt flavor that makes this not-so-heavy stout, creamy and ever so smooth. It has a subtlety that surprises and converts even the most reticent stout drinker.

Very dark, almost black. High coffee flavor in the finish. Holds its head fairly well. The aroma was a nice blend of roasted malt and a slight coffee scent, but that's where the pleasentness stopped.

Dark black pour with a white head. Not super smooth and a bitter finish. Notes of toast and chocolate good but not great.

Clássica Stout. Sabor e aroma de malte torrado com toques de café e algo de chocolate. Corpo médio com boa formação de espuma. Lágrimas na taça e escura como a noite. No palato um leve amargor, simplesmente deliciosa.

UPDATED: DEC 23, 2014 Pours a dark brown. Little hazy. Thin with a bit higher hop presence than I?m used to in a stout. Nothing to write home about. Middle of the road beer. Unfortunatly forgetable.

"not as good as it used to be (all Mendo brews have gone a little downhill over the last few years), but it’s still a solid effort. all the right roasted, malt flavors...decent hop balance, just a touch underwhelming."

Very low on flavor for the style although the tastes that do surface is quite pleasant. Pretty thin and a wee bit watery on the finish.

@ Havregatan. Bottle from Kihoskh, Copenhagen (31 DKK). Roasted malt with notes of chocolate and vanilla, moderate sweet, medium body with an oily texture. The finish is dry and bitter with chocolate notes.

Some coffee and roast but ingredients don’t mesh well. Pours black, OK head and lacing. Thick consistently. Kind of an oaky astringent finish. Bottle.

Bottle at home from backlog notes. Pours dark brown in color with a small khaki colored head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, some powdery dark chocolate, earthy bitterness, dry finish, thin body detracts.
