Black Hawk Stout retains the big traditional flavors of an Irish-style stout and yet offers a refreshing dry crispness that is rare in many dark beers. "Bottle Conditioned" Black Hawk Stout is replete with a rich, roasted malt flavor that makes this not-so-heavy stout, creamy and ever so smooth. It has a subtlety that surprises and converts even the most reticent stout drinker.

Pours almost obaque black overed with a fluffy, frothy, coffee head. Not much in the nose, chocolate chips and malt. Taste is very dry with good carbonation. Slight coffee, but not a major flavor. Interesting linger I can't put a finger on.

Pours a dark brown. Little hazy. Thin with a bit higher hop presence than I’m uaed to in a stout. Nothing to write home about. Muddle of the road beer. Unfortunatly forgetable.

"not as good as it used to be (all Mendo brews have gone a little downhill over the last few years), but it’s still a solid effort. all the right roasted, malt flavors...decent hop balance, just a touch underwhelming."

Very low on flavor for the style although the tastes that do surface is quite pleasant. Pretty thin and a wee bit watery on the finish.

@ Havregatan. Bottle from Kihoskh, Copenhagen (31 DKK). Roasted malt with notes of chocolate and vanilla, moderate sweet, medium body with an oily texture. The finish is dry and bitter with chocolate notes.

Some coffee and roast but ingredients don’t mesh well. Pours black, OK head and lacing. Thick consistently. Kind of an oaky astringent finish. Bottle.

Bottle at home from backlog notes. Pours dark brown in color with a small khaki colored head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, some powdery dark chocolate, earthy bitterness, dry finish, thin body detracts.

Pitch black stout. Dry and similar to Guinness. Easy to drink, not heavy or sweet. Got a six pack on special and would pick up again.

An affable Stout to be sure, a thick feeling muddy-black liquid with a tanned noggin. Your usual coffee and chocolate malts with slight whiffs of spiciness, molasses and anise. Hop bitterness finishes off this Hawk with a dry, lingering touch. Not too shabby.

Bottle shared @ weekly tasting. Dark brown to black color, medium sized brown head that leaves fair lacing. Aroma is malts, roasted malts, liquorice, a touch of hops. Pretty nice actually. Taste malts, lightly roasted malts, again liquorice, nicely bitter. Medium body and carbonation. I like it. Nice beer imo.
