Black Hawk Stout retains the big traditional flavors of an Irish-style stout and yet offers a refreshing dry crispness that is rare in many dark beers. "Bottle Conditioned" Black Hawk Stout is replete with a rich, roasted malt flavor that makes this not-so-heavy stout, creamy and ever so smooth. It has a subtlety that surprises and converts even the most reticent stout drinker.

Smells like olives. Pours really dark like when you wait a year to change the oil in your car. Dark tan head rises and falls quickly. Medium body isn't as thick as the color suggests. Starts malty with fruity/acidic but not sweet, finishes with a medium burnt coffee, and... butter? MUCH better warmed almost to room temperature so let it sit out of the fridge for 10-20 minutes before opening. A good example of a stout but not as strong as many. A great beer if you want to impress your friends with how dark you beer is while still not accidently getting hair on your chest.

A thin and dry stout with tame roast and chocolate notes. Subtle piney hops in the finish. Dark brown color with a light tan head. Easy going and a solid crowd pleaser.

Pours a deep black with a dark tan head. Aroma of earthy smoke and roasted coffee. Taste is mildly sweet with a robust dark flavor giving way to a stiff bitterness in the finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma is roasty chocolate and sweet malt. Appearance is dark brown almost black with big frothy off white head that lingers well. Taste is sweet roasty chocolate malt forward. Hint of bitterness from roast and hops. Light minerally water flavor. Palate is medium. Creaminess coats the tongue nicely. Overall an excellent stout. Not over the top but well brewed with nice flavors. Great definition of the style.

An interesting and well done stout, pours a dark espresso brown with white lacing to contrast, aroma of light roasty malt with bitter cocoa accents. Flavor of smoky roasted malt, some subtle chocolate malt sweetness. Medium-to-light mouthfeel, thin but not watery. Coffee roast and cocoa in the finish. An interesting variety of layered roasty malt flavors present overall, that doesn't overwhelm the palate and indeed finishes on a relatively crisp note. Enjoyable.

Rich foam and a lovely aroma of coffee and chocolate. The taste varies over the classical dark chocolate, coffee, lightly roasted malt and a small touch of licorice. The finish is moderately hoppy with dry end. A good stout who do nothing bigger impression, but still keeps the type of accuracy. Well recommended.
