3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a clear straw with decent head, this pale boasts some honey and just lightly floral aroma. A malty and of course hoppy flavor rewards those who prefer their pales not too bitter with a satisfying clean finish and mildly effervescent mouthfeel. Overall well balanced, but not much to make this heron stand out from the flock.

Bottle to pint (from weekend notes). Looks solid; a transparent golden orange with slightly off-white lacing. Smells of mild hops. Tastes like it smells, but with a stronger (fairly bitter) hop profile with a nice, refreshing finish. The flavor profiles of Mendocinoís base beers are a little underwhelming, but theyíre fairly dry, which I enjoy.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
From beer of month club. Pours a dark straw color (lighter than gold) - much lighter than typical pale ale, and more pilsner-esque. Not much of a nose at all. Taste is bitter from the get go, and not very complex or interesting. Drinkable, but this is at best an average pale ale (and I am being kind).

Where the hell are the hops? I know itís not an IPA, but itís still a pale ale, so I expect some hoppy punch to it. However, itís sadly lacking. More along the lines of a blonde ale. Flavor isnít bad, just not what I wanted.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle. Some chill haze, orange tan body. Thin white head. A very straightforward, clean Pale Ale. I remember thinking these were solid beers ten years back or so, but they never seemed as good once they started making them in Saratota Springs. Still a pretty decent offering. Some light onion, garlic tones...the cluster is sort of odd.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: MAR 1, 2013 From a beer of the month club pack. Pours golden with small white head. Smell is almost wheaty, sweet, slightly stale light an adjunct, with a tiny tinge of hop presence. Prickly carbonation up front. Flavor is a bit weak, but relatively pleasant. Very light sweet candy malt finish after up front hop flavor (though, not much bitterness). Pretty balanced. Not bad.

Kind of disappointing. A thin, slightly tart ale. Mendocino used to be a brewery I really liked, but havenít had anything good from them in quite a while.

Bottle. Pours a hazy orange-amber color with a small white head. Nose is very slight, but has the faintest hint of hops in there. Taste is a little hoppy and bitter, with some faint floral notes.

Beautiful orange in appearance, not taste. Bottle conditioned without being "Yeasty".

Not terrible, but not distinctive. All of their beers are named after bird of prey, except for this one. That might be a good enough reason to jettison this one.
