COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Eye of the Hawk is an excellent, strong, rich bodied ale that is "Bottle Conditioned" to perfection. "Eye" is coppery reddish-amber in color and its unique taste is the result of a judicious mix of caramel and pale malted barley, balanced with Cluster, Cascade and Saaz hops. This gives the Eye its luxurious flavor, substantial mouth-feel and that slightly dry finish.

@ Party Town / Florence KY Clear deep amber, bubbly rim head, light head cover, streaks of lace. Taste is molasses and malt. Midway through the palate, hop bitters try to push through, but are only partially successful. The 8% abv isn’t apparent, in fact, this is big in the mouth with no complexity at all. Overall, reasonable, but there are many better options for American Strong Ale.

355 ml bottle. Almost clear, deep golden body with a rather small off-white head. Quite strong but plain aroma of malt and caramel. Flavor is sweet caramel malt with some fruit and moderate bitterness. Medium body and aftertaste with sweet caramel malt. Absolutely drinkable, but reminds me a lot of a rather malty homebrew that lacks some hoppy flavors. This is old school. Alcohol is well hidden btw.

12 oz bottle. Appearance: small white white to tan head that dissipates quickly, orange color, very cloudy, Aroma: coriander, bread, caramel, floral, pitted fruit, citrus, leather. Palate: medium body, average-lively carbonation, sticky thick texture, lasting bitter and metallic finish. Taste: subtle sweetness at first, followed by metallic tartness that build until swallowed and then a bitterness builds slowly. Overall, love the smell, don’t really like appearance or finish. Drinkable, but not anything I would look forward to.

From bottle. Pours a pale copper with almost no head. Nose is bread malt, yeast and perhaps some fruit and spice. Somewhat oily mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Earthy, cardboard taste with some dehydrated fruit. Hops are way down in the mix. Dry finish. Notable as an easy to drink 8% beer. Nothing else really stands out.

Bottle. Sweet tarts and dried fruit aroma, like apricot, full body, a little harsh across the palate with stone fruit through the finish. There is a little hoppyness that’s comes through across the tongue. Overall it’s okay and really sweet (tasting) beer.

Pours a slightly hazy amber with some khaki colored head. Aroma is very sweet consisting of caramel malt, brown sugar, toffee and bread. Taste is also sweet with just a hint of bitterness in the finish that does not linger. Medium bodied and the alcohol is hidden well. I would prefer more hops to offset the sweetness.

355 ml bottle bought at Oliver’s The Delicatessen in Central.

Cloudy hazy amber red colour with some dirt-like yeast sediments; One finger head and crumpety off-white foam which lasts for 2 minutes; Excellent sticky lacing with slight carbonation; Fragrant aroma of blackcurrant, dark fruit, light floral, nectar, ale malt, cinnamon and thin grass; Nice sweet taste of rich ale malt, with blackcurrant, light dark fruit, molasses, alcohol, earth, strong yeast, light spices, liquorices, lime and grass; Full body, slick and rich palate; Mouth feel is rich ale malt, sweet in a pretty nice way. Strong blackcurrant and dark fruits, round out with strong yeast and spicy hops. Booze is nicely potent and not screaming, managing itself pretty well at this level. Nice! Hoppiness is nice blackcurrant, dark fruit, cinnamon and earth in nose and taste, plus expressive limey grassy hops for a nice and lasting bitter finish; Fairly dry aftertaste, rich and fulfilling to mouth.

Comments:This one is big and bold, true to what ASA is about. Aroma and taste is quite simple but works out exactly as intended. Sweetness and booze is just right and well balanced by the rich and fruity hops. Underrated for sure, very enjoyable and pleasing. Will buy again!
