COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Eye of the Hawk is an excellent, strong, rich bodied ale that is "Bottle Conditioned" to perfection. "Eye" is coppery reddish-amber in color and its unique taste is the result of a judicious mix of caramel and pale malted barley, balanced with Cluster, Cascade and Saaz hops. This gives the Eye its luxurious flavor, substantial mouth-feel and that slightly dry finish.

Pours an orange amber color with a healthy off white head. Has a sweet aroma that translates into the taste. Powerful caramel flavor up front, and finishes with a mild dry bitterness. I like this one, its a little different, interesting and pretty good.

From a bottle - This one poured a reddish mahogany hue, with a malty aroma and a very thin, very rapidly fading head (is this a trademark of Mendicino Brewing Company brews?). The flavor is very malty, with a big sweetness anda lasting palate. All in all, a fine beer.

UPDATED: OCT 14, 2006 Tan/red color with little to no head during and after the pour. Nice mix of hops and sweet malts hides the 8% alcohol up until the finish. The finish has hits of alcohol and fruits and is quite nice. One of my favorite or the Mendocino Beers.

UPDATED: APR 3, 2012 A classic. Very caramel and cereal in flavor, well-balanced with that back-of-the-tongue pleasant bitterness. Definitely a go-to beer and has never treated me wrong!

Gooood beer. I like the smoothness for the abv. Good floral aroma when cold and good finish. The aroma isn’t overwhelming. The taste is hoppy but on the nicer side. Dry. Not too bitter. Good beer.

A light, mostly clear, redding presentation in the glass. A really complex nose: tobacco and some vibrant floral/hoppy notes. The flavors: also complex, leading to a smarmy, slightly syrupy finish, and yet I cannot say no. Wunderbar!

Caramel and cereal malts as well as roasted nuts and grain on the nose. Caramel candy on the palate without feeling sticky sweet. Long finish. Doesn’t feel as high in alcohol as it is. Very yummy and great value.

UPDATED: OCT 2, 2012 On tap in lake Tahoe. Aroma is mild hoppy flavor is clean and mildly bitter. Pours very clear, with nice head and great lacing. 10-2-12 just enjoyed this again amongst other "of the hawk" beers and this one is my clear favorite, great bittering from the hops, really nice citrus notes. And I agree with my previous notes.

Very nice taste to it. The ABV takes you by surprise. It not to harsh, but kicks you in the ass if you drink to much to fast

Poured to a slightly hazy, orangeish color, with a nice off-white head that lingered well and left good lacing on the glass. Pleasant aroma of malty toffee, with a hint of hops. Mouthfeel was slightly tingly and the taste was a good blend of the sweet toffee and slightly grassy hops, all leading to a nice long finish. This was a much better beer than I was expecting.
