COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Imperial Barley Wine Style Ale has a rich amber color with a full, robust body. This Barley Wine Style Ale has a traditional warming malt flavor with a delightful hop finish, While exceptionally drinkable now, it will continue to improve with age - taking on subtle flavors of dark fruit, sherry and anise. Hop flavors and aromas will become more rounded and luscious caramel malt notes will become more intense. Brewed with an astonishing original gravity of 24 Plato and finishing at 11.0% alcohol by volume, this Imperial Barley Wine Ale is not for the faint of heart, though it will reward the adventurous drinker with an unparalleled taste experience.

On tap at the Dutch poured into a oversized wine glass. Nice tan amber hue capped by a nice tan head. Head has fair retention that reduces to light lacing. Nose is warm with caramel, slight yeasty bread. Taste is a strong punch of caramel, cloying sweetness. Light grass and flower, tad of dull earth. Full bodies this is defiantly a sipper. Much better than I expected, not that I am the barley wine expert. Rated via BeerBuddy

A - Pours a copper brown with a light tan head that sinks into a thin cap of micro bubbles. S - Heavily roasted toffee, sorghum, brown bread, a mix of dark fruit, raisins, prunes, coffee grinds, alcohol, heavy minerals. T - Scorched brown sugar, molasses, fusel alcohol, prune juice, some bitter hops, rough mineral finish. M - Medium body, slick, boozy. The burnt sugar mixed with hot alcohol creates an unpleasant astringency. This is a miss for me. Serving type: bottle 09-16-2011

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. There are some sweet alcohol notes, caramel, toffee, apricot, some hot alcohol. A big malty beer, the alcohol is not out of place. This may be the best beer I have had from this brewery.

Pours very cloudy/murky...medium brown-orange with a thin soapy cap. Aroma Is caramel, dark fruit, a little diacetyl tomato/bloody mary-ness. Taste is spicy, peppered, raisin and dark, sweet fruit. Increasing pepper and spice. Really a nice sipper. Even better as it warms.

12oz bottle- pours clear ruby with minimal white head, mostly diminishing. Roasty dough notes, with vanilla, esters and cereal grain. Bit of plum. Taste is of the same ilk, nice and malty, good complex flavors. Touch of hop dryness at the finish. Lighter bodied. Bit of a burn. I like barley wines, so not quite sure bout the discrimination here against Mendocino.

12oz bottle. Half hazy darker red/orange/amber color. Thin khaki head. Fades to a minimal ring around the edge. Doesn’t leave any lace. Medium to bigger body. Moderate carbonation, kind of a blunt texture. Sticky texture, too. Big caramel malts, musty old hop smell. Some dark fruit. Sherry. Wet Cardboard. Boiled nuts. Very sweet, somewhat cloying. Not an enjoyable example of the style. Was a challenge to get through.

Bottle purchased at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell. Clear reddish copper pour with a thick beige head. Grainy malt aroma with caramel, light fruit and some alcohol. Malty and caramelly flavor with light fruit, graininess and grassy hops before a slightly boozy finish.

My second ever barley wine. FFF Behemoth was my first, which I loved...This one pours a cloudy orange brown with no head. Kind of a sweet fruit, sort of orange peel aroma, maybe even iced tea. Taste of sweet caramelized iced tea. Don't know if I would buy again, but would not turn one down either. Alcohol is well hidden for 11%. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at Amp 150. Reddish amber pour with a rocky white head. Sweet malt and hints of wine in the aroma. Taste is sticky sweet, some hops, and somewhat malty. Decent.
