COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Imperial Barley Wine Style Ale has a rich amber color with a full, robust body. This Barley Wine Style Ale has a traditional warming malt flavor with a delightful hop finish, While exceptionally drinkable now, it will continue to improve with age - taking on subtle flavors of dark fruit, sherry and anise. Hop flavors and aromas will become more rounded and luscious caramel malt notes will become more intense. Brewed with an astonishing original gravity of 24 Plato and finishing at 11.0% alcohol by volume, this Imperial Barley Wine Ale is not for the faint of heart, though it will reward the adventurous drinker with an unparalleled taste experience.

Malty and rum-like aromas. Deep brown with a very small fading ring of head. Rich full malt with some bitter balance. Full bodied with a sweet warm finish.

Aroma of sugary molasses, toasted raisins, brown sugar, toffee, and caramel funk. Brown appearance with a crimson tint. Taste is off balance sugary caramel, brown sugar, intense toffee, maple and faint booze on the finish. Overall, not my favorite. Its got some pretty funky off malty flavor. C rating.

UPDATED: MAY 27, 2014 Bottle. A- Caramel, red wine, dark fruits, sweet. A- Red brown color, hazy liquid, tan head. T- Licorice, cherry, red wine, dark fruits. P- Full Body, average texture, average carbonation, smooth finish. O- A super good Barleywine. Lots of fruity flavors and some nice spice from the anise tones. Very smooth and at 11% the alcohol is hardly noticeable at all. Id like to try this with a year or so of age on it. A solid brew all around.

Full body and sweet aftertaste with a slightly harsh bitterness after a while. Drinkable but not very exciting.

Pours deep unclear dark caramel with a small beige head. Aroma has some brown sugar and sweet malty notes. Smooth for 11 ABV, body is just right; not too big by any means. Standard sweet malty barleywine flavor, not complex but easy on the palate.

Bottle, 12oz. It pours a dense, finger-thick beige head over an almost clear dark amber to light brown body. The aroma is mostly malty, quite bready, with some caramel and roasted malts. Prunes and pine cones. The flavor has a nice bitterness, as well as pine cones. Some alcohol flavor and warmth. Full body with a soft carbonation. Bitter, malty finish with a fruity touch. Nothing impressive going on here, its too alcoholic and also slighlty boring. 131231

Aged 3 years, potentially more (2010 bottle). Clear dark ruby with a thin light beige head, really more a ring around the glass. Nose is huge and wonderful; lots of sticky earthy cherry and toffee, some molasses, and sticky dark caramel malts. Flavor is huge and deep, and mostly the same as the nose; lots of caramel, cherry, raisin, earthy toffee, deep booziness, and a sugary warm fruity finish. Wowee.
