Not bad. drinking it a bit warm since i bought it at TJs. Nice and hoppy and I donít really get the orange peel but i guess those things are bitter and so are hops... maybe a way for them to save some cash on bittering their beer? I donít mind it. Iím drinking it.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours dark brown, clear, with thin tan lacing. Aroma of licorice, spice, and citrus fruits. Taste is roasty, nutty, and chocolatey, citrusy and floral, with a moderately bitter licorice finish. Medium smooth body. Solid example of a black IPA.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black with a thin tan head. Rich aroma with molasses and pine. Flavor is nicely bitter. Overall, this is a smooth and drinkable beer, but lacking any nuance. I feel like Mendocino made this just to jump on the black IPA bandwagon.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: 12-oz. mug
From: Trader Joeís in La Mesa (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $7.49 for a 6-pack
Purchased: May 28, 2014
Consumed: May 29, 2014
Poured an almost pitch-black color with two fingers of frothy tan head. Drooping, layered lacing along the sides of the glass. Average retention.
Smelled dark chocolate brownie, black coffee, dark espresso, vanilla, toffee, caramel, light smoky fire, fudge, crayon and nutty malts. Kind of digging it, but reminding me more of a dark porter or light stout than a dark IPA.
Tasted pretty average compared to the smell. Got bitter black coffee, espresso, dark vanilla, dark fudge, smoky fire, crayon and bitter, roasty nuts. Missing something. Just OK.
Full-to-medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, bitter finish.
This beer got worse as it went down. Iíd say I wonít have it again, but I still have five left in this six-pack. Any takers?

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
12oz bottle, from Party Town. Pitch black color. Thin brown head. Bits and ropes of lace. Very basic aroma. Dark fruit, metallic. Not much hop aroma. Light bit of pine. Kind of metallic in the nose. Bitter taste. Spicy pepperiness. Not sure if not fresh or just not good. Medium body. Kind of lighter carbonation, with a strange texture. Very dry finish. Some bitter dark chocolate. Some dark fruit raisiny quality to it. Big bite in the finish, astringent bitterness. Not a good black IPA.
