Quake1028 (625), Tampa, Florida, USA Apr 7, 2008 12oz bottle, purchased about a week ago. Pours out an iced tea colored body with rusted orange highlights. Small off white head fades rather quickly but leaves acceptable drip lacing. The head deposits a layer of foam on top of the beer that maintains throughout. Nose of floral and citrus candy hops, pine resin, assorted spices, caramel malts and some doughy notes. Some sweet cereal grains around the edges as well. Fore is heavily astringent, fading into malt sweetness and some nice fruit notes as the beer progresses towards the back of the palate. Bitter hops make their presence felt at the very back end, and the bitterness wells up with each successive sampling. Citrus fruits and perfumey type hops are also present, along with some grain sweetness and spice. Medium bodied, oily and sticky in turns, makes for a nice mouthfeel. Fun to drink. Finish is lengthy, sweet and then bitter/spicy, then floral hops end everything up along with a nice drying sensation. I liked this one quite a bit better than it’s much higher rated cousin, the Winter IIPA.
drewbeerme (1664), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 8, 2008 12oz bottle. pours chestnut with white clumpy head. toffee malt aroma with some green floral hop notes. flavors are sweet toasted malts, a bit caramelized, touch of some noble hop notes flowery and leathery hops. slightly metalic finish. not bad at all and probably much better straight from the source. unclemattie (1492), Georgia, USA Jun 29, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours clear, golden/amber color. Rocky eggshell colored head. Creamy texture. Sweet rich malt. Flavors of honey and toffee. Finishes with one of the greatest hop flavors I’ve had all day. Spicy and calmingly bitter. Prost nick76 (1935), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 24, 2008 The aroma is very malty with cereal grains, caramel, and grassy hops. The appearance is amber with a large head. The flavor is like the aroma but very bitter. The palate is typical for the style. Overall I like it but it’s astringently bitter with a soapy quality. Palidor19 (1165), Brandon, Florida, USA Jun 24, 2008 gives a nice aroma with a deep caramel yet not too heavy flavor. Taste feels a bit astrigent in the after taste. it has some big flaws but is still very drinkable. Beerded_one (1551), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 24, 2008 Bottle. Pours a copper color with a small white head. Aroma is malty and fruity with caramel, light grass and a touch of honey.
