A much more subtle and refined barleywine than I expected from this brewery, especially since itís relatively fresh - aging would make this really good - anyway - nice ruby color and substantial, clinging lace - aroma of candy sugar, lighter fruit (strawberry), caramel and a hint of alcohol - a little thin, but not too much so - strawberry and caramel flavors mix surprisingly well - not overly sweet - slightly vinous - floral hops in the finish, with just a touch of warming alcohol, just the right amount poking through - for the price, this is exceptional - I will def. be buying a few bottles for aging.

Just a touch better than the other BW from this company. Smooth in a good way, just not large in many.

Dark reddish copper in color with a tan head. Deep, dark fruit and malt. Sweet, full, strong. Raisins, cherry, fig flavors. A nice example of a barley wine that would likely age very well.

Bottle. Poured a dark brown with a fizzy tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, molasses, and light alcohol. The flavor also found dark fruits and molasses with a hints of roast. Full body and warming.

Backlog rating. Bomber from Rodmanís, D.C. Strong and sharp beer, from the first of its boozy glowing amber pour. One of the first majorly hop-aggressive barleywines I had, and one that I still enjoy from time to time (though I notice itís now described as an American Strong Ale on its label). But while the hops are certainly quite forward, this one isnít like Double Bastard so much as a strongly malty base with a serious makeover in the finish. In other words, the strength is from boozy intensity all the way round.

Pours a clear ruby with minimal off white head. Aroma of candied fruit...red twizzlers. Flavor is candied fruit, odd saltiness, metal...oxidized/cardboard. Mouthfeel is light/medium with a fruity/woody/bitter finish.

Reddish color, nice carbonation, small tan head. Scents of sweet malts, hops, prunes, and slight caramel. The taste is sweet/, a touch of caramel, ends with a dry finish. Medium body.

Poured into a snifter. 2009 vintage. 4.0 A: Pours a ruddy brown color. Two fingers of creamy beige head. Retention is pretty good given the ABV and a small ring of lacing is left. 3.0 S: Toffee and caramel. Light plum fruitiness and brown sugar. Simple, but pleasant, and average. 2.5 T: Moderate toffee and caramel. Perhaps a touch of dark fruits. Even simpler than the nose. 2.5 M: Medium to heavier medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Lacking the creaminess that I want from a beer like this. 3.0 D: This beer is completely unoffensive and unassuming. Itís boring without being bad. I didnít really expect it to be any good either given the brewer. I figured I could get a spot back in my cellar by drinking this and in that regard, this is a success. hazy mahogany with no head; almost honey-like full body with medium relative carbonation.

aroma: lots of chocolaty roasty malt, molasses, minerality, some blackened malt or barley, some leafy hop bitterness, and a bit of alcohol.

taste: heavy malt sweetness, burnt pancakes, warm alcohol, fruity esters, and some leafy hop bitterness.

Not so great by itself -but with Stilton, Raclette, and Westphalian Schinken- quite wonderful.
