White Hawk is a traditional IPA .The IPA recipe is based on the original 1880 brew that was sent to India for the British troops. The advent of India Pale Ale was born of a need to supply beer in the 1800’s to British troops in India. This hearty, heavily hopped ale was brewed to endure the rigors of the long voyage from Great Britain.

White Hawk Original IPA was launched in California in early 2002 to meet the demand for a unique India Pale Ale. Consumer response for White Hawk IPA exceeded expectations and it is fast gaining a loyal following both in 6 pack and on draft.

From a Bomber: Dullish golden yellow with a slight bronzed body, very tall and lengthy sitting frothy-laced & whipped white top of melted styrofoam. And that lace leaves immaculately thick webbed shelving. Aroma is musty grasses and slight citrusy tones, dullish and slightly sweet as well with a light waft of pine underneath. Taste is quite mild compared to most of those west coast(IPA) goodies, lightly bittering and buttery with slick grass tones, dulled citrus peels and sweet pine. Pale malts, a bit crispy and biscuity. Nothing abrupt really, seems to be more closely resembling the English style IPA or strong Bitter. Which ain’t that bad really. Flavors linger lightly with just a bit of hop oil left on the finish mixing with a toasted crisped grainyness and malt. Feel is about medium, the middle and finish is a bit empty, but has a fairly decent start. This would make for a good conversion IPA to get a would-be beer enthusiest more attuned to a the beast known as "The Hops" or alpha acids. The bittering bite in this is quite mild to my buds and has a nice clean taste. A nice session IPA perhaps(doesn’t seem 7%), could have more body and of course hop profile, but its still a pretty good little brew to perhaps work with before hitting the big boys. Sufficient enough effort here. Good in my book and will perhaps buy again if tempted.

I had this as a side-by-side tasting with Terminal Gravity IPA to replicate a first round match-up in Realbeer’s Battle of the Beers. Despite the fact that Terminal Gravity crushed this beer and the fact that this is only a 60 percentile beer, I was really impressed by it. I feel it is grossly underrated. In some ways, I liked it better than Terminal Gravity IPA, although that beer does win out for depth and complexity. But White Hawk is very well balanced. Not very hoppy aroma; more malty like an amber. Standing visible carbonation in a gold body. White head that is mostly diminishing. Good strong, assertive flavor. Has a some hoppy zing. Citrus & caramel. Very nice. Thanks slikwily for sending this brew.

Had this one bottled in Lombard, Illinois. Mine said "Brewed and Bottled by Mendocino --- Saratoga Springs, NY". Nice hoppy character, not overwhelming though. Good beginners IPA.

Thin Lingering head with a slightly cloudy gold color body. Hhoppy aroma and flavor, good amount of bite. The taste is what you would expect from an IPA.

A pretty good IPA. It’s heavily hopped, but not too much so its unenjoyable. Not my favorite of the Mendocinos, but I enjoy this beer on draft down at the brewery when Im in the mood.

Pours a pale honey color w/ a medium sized semi creamy froth. The aroma is slightly earthy w/ some aged citrus rind. Medium nectar w/ mellow residual effers creating an almost creamy texture. A malty style w/ balanced hops. This is a good brew indeed. The hops are tame yet defined. Moderate caramel and leather. Not too citrusy. The finish is well bittered and perfect. I could drink this all day. Overall: this is an IPA that is balanced, and it’s a true 7%. A solid brew!

12 oz bottle at the Hong Kong Brew House. Pours a golden orange. Citrus hop aroma, nice head with heavy lacing. I like this beer because it is not over-hopped for an IPA. NIce balance with the malt and very drinkable. Lots of American IPA get high ratings based on how hoppy they are. Bought 6 bottles at the bar and took them home.

Hoppy aroma. Cloudy golden appearance. The taste is not aggressive or original but it is very good. With many IPA’s the bitterness becomes overwhelming, this beer could be drank all night.

Very decent IPA though not exceptional. Cloudy gold appearance. Soapy foamy head. Smooth palate. Smells of grains and citrus. Tastes of earth, oranges and grass.

Deep amber color with foamy white head. Floral hoppy aroma. Gotta let this one warm up a bit to experience the full hop flavor. Nice bitterness.
