White Hawk is a traditional IPA .The IPA recipe is based on the original 1880 brew that was sent to India for the British troops. The advent of India Pale Ale was born of a need to supply beer in the 1800’s to British troops in India. This hearty, heavily hopped ale was brewed to endure the rigors of the long voyage from Great Britain.

White Hawk Original IPA was launched in California in early 2002 to meet the demand for a unique India Pale Ale. Consumer response for White Hawk IPA exceeded expectations and it is fast gaining a loyal following both in 6 pack and on draft.

Pours out crystal clear, gold with a small head. Very light aroma of malt + hops. Fairly light-bodied, slightly bitter, floal, lightly malty, finishing mildy bitter. Not much more hoppy than the pale ale. This would make a better pale ale, though not big enough for an IPA.

Medium orange. Chalky and foamy aroma. Weird sweet chardonay flavor. A bit sour. Overall this can simply be desribed as unenjoyable and rancid.

Pours a golden color with small white head. Light hop flavor not really that bitter not what i expected in ipa too weak in the flavor department.

The beer pours out a very light golden colour with a frothy white head. The aroma is almost purely of hops, but not very strong. The taste of the beer is somewhat hoppy, but not balanced...there are no detectable malt characteristics, and the beer is therefore soemwhat 'watery'. The aftertaste is almost non-existant as well. Not a good represenation of the style, in my opinion.

UPDATED: JUN 22, 2005 Light yellow color with some honey amber hues. Usual floral/hops aroma, though somewhat lighter in this case. First taste seemed unbalance and even a bit sour towards the end. However upon drinking more, and the beer’s warming, a more delicate flavor came out, and the beer came together very well. Nice bitter hops taste right away, though not overly so. Medium bitterness as far as IPAs go. The more this beer warmed the more I enjoyed it. Many floral notes with a lingering bitterness on the top edge of my mouth. Beer had a very soft, medium body that almost seemd like it added a touch of honey for you to land in after experiencing the initial hops. Good even finish with a surprisingly perfect amount of carbonation for the bottle, more than I usually like, but it complimented the beer well in its transition from a bitter beer to, as the carb evened out, a nice softer, almost amber ale. I could see where people think this is just an average unremarkable IPA and to some extent it is. But it manages to appeal as a lighter IPA, which is a nice turn from the kill you with hops approach(dont get me wrong I enjoy that too). It still adds a big punch at the start and the beer is very well balanced, making it, in my opinion an above average IPA.

An alright looking beer with good white head but rather "thin looking" golden color. Nose is mostly hops, and not too strong. Flavor is also completely hops dependent. This one needs a little something more for its character to improve. An alright IPA...not great though.

Golden amber and slightly hazy with a large white head. Left decent lacing as the head disappeared. Nice IPA aroma, hoppy with some evident malt and a bit of sweet clover. Sweet, spicy and bitter flavor. Either a lot more malt or a lot less hops than most California IPA's. Finish is medium long with a pleasant hoppy bite and astringency. Not outstanding, overall a nice IPA that I will likely drink again. As always with the Mendocino brews, I love the bottle art.

An ok IPA drinkable. Spicy and hoppy flavor. Finish is clean, smooth, and slightly bitter.
