3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 gregwilsonstl (661) - USA - MAR 16, 2012
Very good stout. Drank in KS. Very chocalatey. Not as creamy as I would expect based off of the description hyping up the amount of oats used.

All dark with a small mocha head and moderate lacing. Roasted malt and semi-sweet chocolate aroma. Woodsy flavors; modest sweetness with a bit more carbonation that a typical stout. Body could have benefitted with a little more depth. Waited in vain for more hops to show up in the aftertaste. Long lasting finish.

Bottle. Pours a deep black color with a medium tan head. Nice woody, chocolate malt aroma. Roasted coffee flavor with a bit of chocolate and oats. Quite smooth, but a little on the light side. All in all a quality brew.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Colonial Wine and Spirits, 2/27/12
Aroma: The nose is somewhat subtle, with some roasted malts, and hints of coffee and chocolate
Appearance: This one pours a brown-black color with a light brown head and medium lace
Flavor: Tastes lightly sweet, with a dry roasted coffee flavor, and a pretty amount minimal of hop bitterness
Palate: Light-medium bodied, somewhat light for the style, but not watery, with an average carbonation
Overall Impression:
This is an alright stout. It is drinkable, and works decently well. I didn’t find anything particularly wrong with it, but it isn’t particularly exciting either. It is just a solid, fairly drinkable, roasty stout.

The aroma of the Mendocino Oatmeal Stout promises lots of oatmeal flavor along with oily hops and perhaps some molasses. Full of big, earthy flavors, this is a very smooth stout. Roasted oats dominate (as they should), followed by bittersweet chocolate, bourbon, and wood. Floral hops make a nice presence at the end, but don’t overshadow anything.
Quite quaffable, but I wouldn’t be opposed to more oatmeal in this

A good example of style. Dark and risky pour into the cup. Big chocolate syrup sweetness with a good bit of roast and coffee. Creamy with just the slightest lactic flavor. Pretty good.

12oz bottle in an English pint. Pours black with a lacy, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, a little oatmeal and chocolate, and some floral hops. Flavor about the same. Average texture. A pretty good beer.

Very smooth throughout, thick toffee coffee taste, creamy mouthfeel, very little thin whisp head. Easy drinking same taste throughout, thouroughly enjoyable, very well balanced.

Very good. The aroma is a subtle blend of roast and coffee. The beer is opaque black with a thick tan head leaving lacing throughout. The taste is smooth malt and coffe with only the subtlest coffee presence. The body is thick creamy and smooth. Excellent.
