Bottle acquired via trade with Benzai...thanks Rene! Squid ink pour with some dark mahogany edges and a thin latte foam. Baker’s chocolate, brownie batter, toasted marshmallow, campfire, pine, dark fruit, alcohol, and vanilla. Not as rich as the description indicates. Can’t quite put my finger on it but there is something missing. Good, not great.

10/VIII/13 - 75cl bottle @ RBBSG II, my place - bottled: 18/IV/13 - bottle# 71 (2013-755) Thanks to Ben for sharing the bottle!

Clear dark brown beer, very small layer of beige bubbles, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: some chloride, mocha, caramel, pretty sugary, some vanilla, dark chocolate. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: bit citric, caramel, mocha, coffee, very dry, pretty fruity, some exotic fruits. Aftertaste: lots of coffee, sugary, mocha, bi of caramel, vanilla, very bitter and dry hop. If by the end of a tasting like today’s, a beer can still be very bitter and hoppy, then it must be loaded with hops.

0,75 l bottle, shared with friends, as a birthday gift, thanks Balazs!
Pours deep as midnight with a small beige head. Aroma of ash, meat and smoked bacon, dead fallen leaves, roasted barley and rock oil, dirt and burnt wood. Huge bodied one with tar, burnt wood, ash and roasted grains, deep dark chocolate. Robust, heavy, dangerous;-)

Bottle #294: Served in a Chouffe glass: Deep dark brown to black pour. Medium to smaller sized light brown foamy head on top of a black colored beer. Aromas of creamy roasted malts, liquorice, nettle toast, hay, soap, hay toast and a slight hint of older hops... Dull aroma at first but gets a bit better with a while in the glass. Flavours of chocolate (mostly dark), creamy sweet tar, mocha, bitters, dark sweets, marzepin, coffee, coffee cream, brown sugars, darkened malts and some hints of caramel. Aftertaste bitter, chocolate, light dry creamy and some coffee. Low to no carbo, thick silky mouthfeel, full body and a thick oily texture. Very nice thick texture. Dangerously easy drinkable!

Bottle, thanks to Jeffo, 08/04/2013. Black pour, fine espresso cream head, dies to a haze on the surface and then to stillness. Aroma is rich chocolate cake, touch of vanilla and dark berries, long smooth roast coffee finish, fairly dark and bitter. Taste is dark chocolate, cocoa nut, sweet dark fruit, licorice, lingering coffee and bitterness. Thick body, but needs a bit more heft (ie carbonation) to carry everything. Brings me back, definitely classic Menno brew but some of the typical flaws as well. Still, can’t complain too much, fairly tasty.
