3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 CapFlu (3798) - Victoria, - MAR 19, 2005
(Draught) Sampled at the cidery. Mildly carbonated, golden body. More acidic and sour crabapple flavour than the others. Notes of aged oak casks and an earthiness that make this a very enjoyable cider. Very good.

Plastic bottle from Brewery Creek, Vancouver Golden color; no head persistence. Aroma of apple juice, alcohol, chemicals, light hazelnuts and very light Chinese Market; paint remover too. The mouthfeel is dry, so dry like nothing tasted before, and leading to a very dry and astringent finish; there is some acidity, shades of fruits, but the flavor overall is very difficult to accept, weak flavor and aggressive mechanics. I wasted 6 bucks.

Small plastic bottle. Deep golden colour, brisk carbo, no lasting head. Brown apple mash aroma, hints of spice. Apple mash flavours, highly fermented quality to the flavour, low sweetness, dry astringent finish. Lacks a certain lightness and depth of character. Just okay.

Bottle. Golden with a low initial foam layer. Wooden, spicy, (cardemom, muscat) fermenting apple nose. Fairly dry and lightbodied, peppery spiced notes dominate,
some berrylike notes appear, a bit alcohol burn. Almond and old apple aftertaste.

341 ml bottle courtesy Capflu. Straw coloured with just a bit of carbonation, mostly still. Tart but dry apple and light cinnamon aroma. Quite tart and acidic up front, tartness fades through the finish but remains dry – never sweet – with a hint of alcohol. Light bodied, very dry yet refreshing and drinkable. Almost a lambic-like mouthfeel but with less oomph in the body. Very little sign of the 11% alcohol. Overall not offensive but just overly simple to really entice me to come back for more.

Best flavour of any cider I’ve ever tasted. Have had a moldy bottle more than once though. Quite expensive.

Pours a golden yellow. Faint sweet apple aroma. Light apple flavour, slightly sour, ends with a very dry finish. Thin body, decent carbonation. Pleasant smell and subtle body make this cider quite enjoyable, refreshing, and refined.

A dark clear amber to brown cider. A pleasant aroma of apple skins, alcohol, and apple pulp. In mouth, a rather wild lactic cider, rather astringent, with light corkyness, and a strong warming alcohol in finish. This reminds me very much of the dry British ciders I had in London, UK in 2005. To be sipped and enjoyed. Merci a Todd, le Capflu!

Fisrt cider rating. Golden colour (looks like apple juice).Aroma of old apples in a cellar, Some sour apples, tannic, winelike wood notes. Definately not a Growers cider.

Pale yellow. Strong alcohol and apple skin aroma with unpleasant note not unlike the brackish sludge at the St. Paul’s Hospital loading dock. Flavour is mainly malic acid. It’s a bit tart, with apple skin and a slight alcohol in the finish. Kind of weak, but definitely the character is rough and scrumpyish.
