A dark cola brown coloured beer with a weak, off-white head. A mild roasted malt nose. Light coffee and liquorice notes and a milk chocolate aroma that makes a pleasant surprise. Light bitterness and medium bodied. Dry, roasted malt, coffee and lquorice, and a chocolatey element as well. A bitter and malty finish. (Cask - The Fox & Hounds Summer Beer Festival 2007, Heacham, Norfolk).

(Bottle, 4.5%). Translucent, dark red-black. Persistent, thin, light brown head. Medium carbonation. Dry, roasty, lots of chocolate and grainy aromas, some raisin and dates fruitiness. Taste - Starts with sweet dark malts and bit of sticky fruits, but quickly gives way to lots of roasty, dry malt, some licorice, some umami, with a long, dry, bitter finish (roasty and pleasant at first, but eventually the roast fades to just leave some unpleasant bitter residues on the tongue). Decent medium-bodied palate. Slightly oily, slick mouthfeel that coats your throat; satisfying. Quite a nice Irish style stout; true to the style; very Irish-y. Wholesome and satisfying, nice dark and roasty malts, though the bitter aftertaste lingers for a while and isn’t too pleasant.

Warning! Early amateur rating! On tap at the Sun Inn - Kelvedon. Quite a bit of toasted malt although the palate is not thick. Hard work to start with but got better when I got used to the level of toasted malt.

Bottle 50cl.
Clear dark red brown color with a average, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, burnt, smoke. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily and smooth, carbonation is soft. [20090724]

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Clear dark orangey brown with a beige head. Aroma of hard roasted malts and licorice. Medium body, hard roasted malt and a little ashes. Dry, malty bitter finish. 240709

Bottled. Reddish brown coloured. Dense light brown head. Sweetness, light smoke and light roast in the aroma. flavour of smoke, fruits and light herbs. Quite thin bodied. fruity and light roasty end.

Bottled. A red-brown beer with a thin tan head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and some caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt lending it a bit of acidity as well as notes of nuts, leading to a bitter and roasted finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

50 cL bottle.Pours deep dark brown with a redish golden glare and small tan head. Aroma is roasted darkmalt, mild breadish note. Roasted breadish flavoured with a light fruity note.

Cask Stillage at the Civic Hall, Nantwich Beer Festival 28/09/2007 Fruit and roast aromas. Black rich on the palate and fruity with some bitterness in a smooth and slightly dry roast finish.

Bottle.4.5%.Black with a big head,aroma is light woody,taste is minimal and thin with a light choc finish.

Bottle @ Chris_o. Pours a dark reddish almost black color with a small off-white head. Roasted malty yeasty aroma with some hints of chocolate. Smooth roasted malty flavor with some bitterness. Roasted malty bitter finish with some hints of chocolate in the aftertaste.
