COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned at 5.1%.
Our recipe for a traditional Oyster Ale, using lots of oats, a mixture of light and dark malts and a small amount of Fuggles hops. The brew has local Mersea Island Oysters added to it, giving it a distinct unique flavour. Each cask has eight oysters added giving a 1 pint in 8 chance of the aphrodisiac properties of the oysters taking effect.

A bottle I picked up at a little market these guys were at around the south bank. Great head on this awfully dark beer. Rich, dark and malty aroma wise with something a little stale and salty about it. Definitely got some salt in the mouth all the way to the finish. Deep and savoury with very burnished coffee flavours. It’s a little thin but pads itself out with the creamy head. Not an amazing brew but it throws a few things in that make you think...

(Bottle). Really lively. Foamed right up on opening. Fair bit of chunky brown sediment that settles well. Pours huge, brown head, persisting as a good covering for a long time. Totally opaque black. High carbonation. Rich, warming chocolate malt aroma, lightly toasty, with a nice spicy hoppiness (smells quite hoppy for an English stout, but English type aroma). Bit of pine, grass and some alcohol. Tangy and lively on the lips and tongue. Bit oily, mid-full body. Bit tart/acidic, bit ashy and toasty, a bittersweet tanginess, licorice and a wholesome, cereally quality. Nice hoppy bitter finish. Left with some tangy, roasty, dry malt flavours on aftertaste. Nice, slightly unusual, tangy stout.

One-third pint, cask, at the Vane Bar, GBBF’11. Good looking appearance that’s consists of a fawn-coloured head on a near-black body content. Anise and malts to the nose. Salty liquorice in flavour added by dark malts. Roasted bitter endnotes. Tasty and well bodied (London, 04.08.2011).
