COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is the version sold in the US. The brewer’s original intent was for a beer of this strength but limitations proprietary to the Dutch market led to him brewing a lower alcohol, sweetened version there. When he started exporting to the US, the original concept of the beer was chosen.
Produced at Gulpener’s De Zwarte Ruiter (Black Knight) brewpub, Mestreechs Aajt is a blended beer in which one of the component beers is subject to a wild yeast fermentation and is aged for a year in unlined wood. Very refreshing, traditional style brew.

Draft at redlight redlight. Spicy Brett on the nose with raspberry. Pours very dark brown with a huge fluffy white head. Tart fruit upfront, over ripe berries, with molasses and a sweet sour malty finish.

The absolute definition of a Flanders Oud Bruin, this beer is everything you could hope for from the style. Simply phenomenal. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at The Porter Beer Bar. Pours dark amber with white head. Aromas of cherry, little wood, sweet malts, and some funk. Flavor is loaded with sweet cherries, some funk and wood, and nice amount of tartness. Good mouthfeel and carbonation. Nice sour.

Clear brown, beautiful creamy beige lasting head. Aroma is sour, vinous, toffee, butterscotch. Taste is like aroma but sweeter. Bit low on carbo and taste a bit too sweet.

11/3/12. On tap at Kickback’s. Deep amber/brown pour with a huge, fluffy khaki head that lasts and coats the glass in thick lacing. Sweet and sour aroma with bits of wood, funk, and deep sweetness. Sweet entry with lots of cherry, some powdered sugar, wood, and a hint of menthol. Tasty!

On tap at the Livermore Saloon. It pours a nice dark ruby red/brown color with a nice tan head. The aroma is sour cherry candy with hints of leather. The flavor is sweet cherries with a hint of funk, leather and a hint of chocolate. Light bodied. Balance is more toward the sweet side than sour. Only faults are lack of complexity and light body. Enjoyable sour.

On tap at Churchkey’s Night of the Living Ales event. Poured a ruby red color with a huge white head - had to wait for this one to settle down a bit. Aroma was slightly sweet, with a mild note of balsamic in there - perhaps that’s not the right description, but it’s what I hit upon when I had it at the time. Aroma was sweet, mild tartness, but overall mostly sweet. Fruit notes aren’t bad at all, perhaps also noticed a touch of smoke in this one too. Nice sweet brew, with fruity notes.

Tap: dark brown with large frothy white head. Aroma is funky, tart and some barnyard qualities. Flavor has a slight toasted wood, tart cherry, and a hint of creamy caramel. Palate is sweet and sour, a good balance and nice acidic full mouth feel. Rather easy drinking for a sour beer. Good balance and flavor.

Sour nose. Too dark in bar to appreciate color. Palate was light, not offensive but lacking. Tasted like a high end sour cherry juice. Very drinkable but diasappointing for a sour. Wanted more depth of sour

Pours deep red, good head. Sour, thin on mouthfeel. Nothing special, especially given its cost (on tap at urban family public house). Meh. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: JAN 2, 2013 Tap pours dark brown red with creamy off white head. Smell is an inviting acidic sour with some sweetness. The taste is super smooth, rather light and sweet cherry over the sour but still a touch of vinegar and sour raspberries. Light body and smooth easy carbonation makes it slide down kind of oily even with the light overall character. Top notch I could drink this all night.
