2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 frankenkitty (1953) - Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA - MAY 5, 2006
My bottle weighs in @ 8%
Goofy, screw-top liquor bottle pours out a murky, rust/brown bodied beer with a creamy off-white head. Sour, stale, earthy malted aroma with basement mustiness and skunked Fuggles. The only "smoke" I can find is in a hint of burnt plastic. Flavor takes a sweet turn with candied-caramel malt and whisky, albeit thin. Creamy mouthfeel with an aftertaste of scotch. This wouldn’t be too bad if I didn’t like beer.
My bottle reads (in part): "Murie en Cave de Garde". Doesn’t that imply this is a Bière de Garde? That would make more sense than "Smoked"...

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Geiserich (2278) - Vienna, AUSTRIA - MAR 26, 2006
Bottled: Sweetish, malty aroma, onedimensional. Amber color, small creamy head. Medium sweet with acid too. Light notes of roasted malt, light (unpleasant) fruity freshness. Dry finish with again some smoked notes. Quite bitter. Not very round.
2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 fiulijn (10000) - Como, ITALY - DEC 25, 2005
Clean amber color. Simple aroma, some bread, very light smokey. Very simple taste, very poor malt and nothing else.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 tiggmtl (4467) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 1, 2005
Aroma is fruity and syrupy with plenty of tea-like tannins and some peat notable. Clear whisky-like appearance in the bottle yet topped by a foamy off-white head when poured. Kind of sweet and fruity with some peat malt in evidence but the tannins still suggest cold tea to me despite the strong carbonation. Bottle. Entered from notes.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Papsoe (21781) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - AUG 2, 2005
(Bottle 75 cl) 7,2% ABV in my version. The French have this thing about whisky beers, don’t know exactly where they got that idea. Amber coloured with a handsome, lacing head. Soft and aromatic and sweet. Less smoked than others in the same style. A bit treacherous - you don’t sense the alcohol at all. Really looks like a cheap bottle of Scotch. 071103
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 RAYBOY01 (2003) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 1, 2005
Not much going for this one...a smoked beer with virtually no smoke aroma or flavor. Not very attractive in appearance and has a mustiness that I can’t quite figure out. A lkittle weak in body as well.
2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Cornfield (5239) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - APR 25, 2005
UPDATED: JUL 20, 2005 Smoke? Where’s the smoke? For that matter, where’s the body and the taste? This has only the faintest of smoke aromas, mainly some funky sweet maltiness. The body is fairly flat and watery. The flavor is a light, musty malt sweetness - and no smoke! The finish was a stale honey sweetness. At least it’s 8% abv.

Comes in a funky, clear small bottle but pours with a lasting head, which I didn’t expect. Aroma is smoke but not a good smoke. More like an ashtray. Taste is malty enough, with a dirty dishwater thing going on. I’m not getting much whisky taste but it packs a punch all right.
