Amber-brown with moderate beige head, sweet malty aroma with a hint of whisky on the nose, taste is sweet and nutty with some subtle hints of whiskey, I don’t really get the smoke or the peat. Smooth palate and easy to drink with dark fruit and a little toffee. RichardGretton (3143), Leicestershire, England
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 6, 2002 Served best when very cold. Sweet ale aroma with a slight whisky tinge. The flavour of the beer has a slight similarity to a spirit, with a slight bitter edge. For 8% the beer is not too strong in taste,in fact it is better than you would expect. jbrus (4859), Delft, Netherlands

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 30, 2006 From a 1 pint 9.4 oz clear glass bottle that looks like your classic scotch whiskey bottle, a blurb on the back label, no freshness date.
Poured a cloudy fresh, raw apple cider copper with a foamy off-white head that settled into a thin sudsy lacing.
Aromas of sweet caramel malts mixed with a buttery toffee, a light apple fruitiness, a subtle peat and a light whiskey-like alcohol.
Pleasant Scottish Ale taste, caramel and toffee with a nice lingering butteriness, a hint of nutty grain, the alcohol has a light peat whiskey flavor, lightly warming in the palate, a subtle pineapple yeasty fruitiness, light and soft on the hop bitterness, and a malty, yeasty with a touch of peat finish.
A nice Scottish Ale from a historic region of France, smooth, easy drinkability, at an affordable price, well worth trying. For anyone who cares, the name is Mortimer, it’s in a Scotch bottle and if your label is different from the one pictured, please take a close look at the Scotchman picture at the left, then look at the color and body of the brew before you, the smell and taste, I think you will realize this is a Scottish Ale.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 1, 2002 This is sort of an odd beer - the clear bottle doesn’t bother me like it bothers others. I think it’s misclassed as a ’smoked’ beer - a rauchbier it’s not! It’s a tad like a scottish malt ale, quite decent. Slight head. If whiskey were a beer, it might be a bit like Mortimer. leaparsons (4722), Leicester, Leicestershire, England
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 24, 2002 It has a nice colour, but no head to speak of. This smells of whisky and grain. This is quite a smooth beer. Not much aftertaste, though. mrkimchee (1414), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
