Another idea from the abbey Brewed in the tradition of the monks of Wissembourg, who had their beer made on the current site of the brewery, Wendelinus is the result of a centuries-old know-how. Beneath its amber colour and creamy head is an abbey beer with a range of flavours that mature on the palate with every mouthful. Strong, with a pleasant touch of bitterness, this is a beer to be savoured for its persistent mellowness and caramelized fruity flavours. Take your time with it!

Notas acarameladas y sabor a levadura. Cuerpo medio y acabado ligeramente dulce.

Bottle from Cora supermarket, Saint Malo, Brittany, France. Golden coloured with a sweet fruit and alcoholic toffee flavour, hints of cheese?! followed by a warming almond and caramel finish. Not a very good beer at all.

12oz goblet at a bar in Bordeaux. Pours a hazy, burnt orange with some thin, eggshell head. Nose has some candy sugar sweetness, some clove, dates, nougat, lightly floral too. Flavor is candy sweet, raisins, clove, some herbs, some dried apple slices, some dried citrus peel. Fairly heavy finish.

Schade! 9+12+8+9

330ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Pours clear pale gold, thin white head. Aromas are grainy, light white sugar, bread. Taste is light sweet, not much else, maybe more graininess. Forgettable.

25cl bottle: part of a six pack bought at a French supermarket in Calais. Poured into a Chimay chalice on 23 Feb 14. Looks lager/pilsner like: clear, deep golden hue to the clean body, the head a thin wisp from the start and just a collar after 10 seconds. The aroma is semi-sweet grainy: the taste very similar with just about enough flavour to hide the alcohol. It lacks depth and character but it isn’t a bad beer, just a little one dimensional and not really my thing even though I prefer malty and sweet beers. Scored objectively.

33 cl bottle. Aroma: vanilla, brown sugar, sweetish. Appearance: dark yellow, white head that dissipates. Taste: sweet. Palate: relatively smooth, sweet aftertaste. Overall: alright - too sweet for me though.
