Amber pour with a tight tan head. The aroma is very fruity with a lot of apple, pear and date aroma. A soft spicy backnote comes to the fore as well. Toasted molasses and intensely fruity (reminds me of Binchoise or Abbaye Des Rocs). Toasted dried fruit and a rich plumcake mix of fruit and spice - this is the real deal. Intense and chewy but not cloying at all. Goddamn-it’s hard to believe this was made in Russia. A great bookend to a great trip. Thanks St. Petersburg... it’s been a slice.

Bottle @ brewpub. Light brown, fairly murky. Generally sweet and lightly fruity, hinting at Belgian roots. A little bit funky, then mellows into a mildly alcoholic, slightly yeasty, fruity beer with light esters. Not very effective beer.

Bottle @ brewpub. Quite ugly, a muddled color with a small fizzy head that vanishes fast. Aroma is spicy Belgian yeast but lacking depth or complexity. Same with the body, the bigness, the big alcohol and high gravity is there and it’s quite smooth but it’s also simple and yeasty in character. Fizzy with high carbonation. Drinkable enough.

Bottled, from the bewpub. Cloudy brownish amber, rich firm head. Sweet and caramelly with spicy hops and waring alcohol, Some sticky caramel. Rather intense and dense. Peppery alcohol plays a significant part.
