Commercial Description:
Dunkel weisse dark wheat ale, all malt and unfiltered. A dark wheat ale featuring our own unique yeast and malted wheat. A special Bavarian yeast strain combined with select wheat malt deliviers unmistakeable clove and banana tones. The surprisingly light finish is a character of dark weissbeir, a style with roots back to the 1520s. A dunkel which is perfect for any season! To serve this brew perfectly, pour it down the side of the glass untill about a half inch is left. Gently swirl the bottle mixing what’s left. Pour the rest of the brew into the glass to produce a nice thick collar of foam and enjoy!

Hazy amber. Light footy character. Bland, with light wheat notes. Candyish finish. Not sure where this is going, really.

(12oz. bottle, courtesy of Swalden 28) Pours a hazy amber-brown body with a small off-white head. Aroma of grain, wheat, caramel, toasted grain, coconut, and chocolate. Flavor of caramel malt, burnt brown sugar, banana, wheat, marzipan, and toasted grain with a light coin-like aftertaste.

12oz bottle-pours a foamy light tan head and amber color. Aroma is fruity, medium malt-caramel/chocolate/peat, some earthy hops, wheat, tang. Taste is medium malt-caramel/chocolate/peat, fruity, some clove/spice. Metallic hops comes through at back end. Thanks jwc215 for picking this out.

Bottle… First Annual Treasure Coast Beer Festival 2008… Murky, awful-looking mixture… deep, dark amber ale with a small, creamy, white head. Perfumy, fruity nose with all those Bavarian yeast-invoked esters and phenols found in hefes that I just don’t really like much – also, some chocolate and bubblegum. Light to medium-bodied with prickly carbonation. Pretty close to perfectly-balanced… leans a just a whisker toward the sweet side. Finishes acerbic and dry.

When I saw this for 5.50 a sixer I figure, what the hell and picked it up. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Deep brown-amber beer with a thick white head. Aroma is pretty solid... soft banana and clove over a rich sweet toasted wheat aroma. A touch of toffee and caramel with a bit of marshmallow. Softly smoky phenolics as well. The body is a little bit light, but overall, I’ve got no complaints. If this was served in a different bottle, it would be substantially higher.

Bottle from Pat’s Liquors in Porter, Indiana, carefully poured into my Choc Beer glass - It had a caramel/amber body with a very short lived ecru head. The aroma was light and consisted of very ripe bananas and a touch of caramel. Same with the flavor, except it was stronger and had a mild spicy bitterness. Not bad for an A-B brew.

Lightly hazed copper to brown in color. Small lid of beige bubbles. Ripe banana and dark caramel scents. Slightly earthy, but that seems to fit with the banana. Toasted wheat flavors in the front. Some mild bananas in the middle. Some cocoa and a roasted malt finish and linger. I get a bit too much dark malt in the finish. Some sweetness in the finish that is more candy like. Not bad, just not enough balance, and things get a bit sticky at times as I find myself scraping my tongue.
