GMUcrew7 (183), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA May 26, 2008 Pours clear brown with tan head. Aroma is weak, somewhat roasted chocolaty. Flavor is much stronger than the aroma and not bad, nice chocolate malt flavors with a nice roasted tone. The body is a little weak, but overall not a bad beer from one of the macro brewers.
jujubeast6000 (485), Houston, Texas, USA Sep 4, 2008 (bottle): Pours an extremely dark reddish body. Small white tan head, diminishing. Very malty aroma, some chocolate, and a little coffee. Porterish smell. Malty taste, some of the same chocolate & maybe coffee. Some slight nuttiness. Not too bad, but not too exciting either. realbama (29), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Sep 4, 2008 Very impressed! I did not purchase this 6 pack with high expectations but was happy after the first sip. Nice pour, completely dark with a generous head that sticks around for a minute or so. Tastes like a mild porter. I’d almost say, a starter porter. If youve never had a porter, why not start here. Then move on to the big boys. Good stuff though. Ibrew2or3 (1705), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Aug 22, 2008 OK, why doesn’t a brewer with near infinite resources and claims to a wealth of brewing history not make a better Porter? I love the “All Malt” claim on the label just so you know it is legit. It poured out of the 12oz bottle with a deep amber body and thin tan head. The mild-meek aroma is mildly roasty malts with chocolate malts and a hint of fruity esters. The taste Is roasty up front and starts to climb the ladder toward burnt malts but decides to detour into a bit of caramelized malts mixing with chocolate malts but without any richness or depth. Ends nearly neutral with a mild malt tea sensation like taking a little sip of pre-pitched low gravity wort. lovemyipas (420), sw burbs, Illinois, USA Aug 20, 2008 pours dark brown with red highlights and a one finger fluffy brown head. has a medium body with descent lacing and good carbonation. aroma is chocolate malt with a touch of caramel malt hops and coffee. flavors is the same as aroma but stronger especially the coffee. not bad of a session porter and probably one of abs’ best beers! SturmWulf (63), USA Aug 16, 2008 Very nice aroma of caramel, chocolate and a hint of roasted coffee. Poured a very deep brown with a reddish tinge. Fantastic light-tan head that was large, creamy with a touch of foam and it left thick lacing on the pint glass. Head very slowly thinned down a creamy cap. Flavor was very nice with a slightly sweet caramel, light roasted coffee with a light flavor of dark chocolate.
A light to medium body, with a slightly thin but slick texture, average carbonation with a abrupt, dry slightly bitter and sweet finish. I served this at 50 degrees in a pint glass. I hesitated buying this because its AB. But, I am glad I did buy it. This is a very nice Porter and while I have had better, I definitely have had a lot worse. A very, very good Porter by AB. I will definitely buy and drink again. GREAT JOB on this one Michelob!
