ClarkVV (3547), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Nov 24, 2007 Had a bottle of this some time in September 07. One of my friends had this so I gave it a shot. Fizzy, alcopop appearance. Color as pictured to the left. No head/lacing. Clear. Smells like brewing flaws. Vanillin, wax, corn-like notes. A touch of rancid raspberry. Not particularly offensive in the nose, just smells like a poorly brewed, fruity alcopop. Weak nose strength, no alcohol noted. Flavor is full of papery acetyldehyde, with streaks of artificial flavored sweetness. Yum. Nothing redeeming here. Flawed and with an artificial, cloying sweetness on the finish. Fizzy. I want more pomegranate.
ratman197 (2190), Arvada, Colorado, USA Jul 25, 2008 Bottle poured a clear yellow with a small lingering ring of white foam. Aromas of raspberry, cookie and pomegranate. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of pomegranate, raspberry and cookie with a crisp clean finish. lumberjack (136), Michigan, USA Jul 25, 2008 Golden color, little head, and no appearance of any fruit. Aroma is of sweet berries, nothing else. Taste is very watery and fake, overly sweet fruit extracts. Nothing offensive-tasting here, just not enough hops and malts, and clearly not much real fruit used. I like a well made fruit beer, but this one is just plain boring. Ron (700), Rochester, New York, USA Jul 21, 2008 The wife and daughter like Mic Ultra so I got a 12 pk for them and so I could get this over with and try these 3. This one had a very sweet(berry or cherry?) aroma. Flavor was more of a sweet soda with alittle Mic Ultra added to it. No need to try again. shigadeyo (1342), Southwest Ohio Area, Ohio, USA Jul 14, 2008 7/12/2008: I will start by going on the record to say that this beer isn’t all that horrible. That being said, let me qualify that comment before a get roasted by somebody for this opinion... I don’t hate fruit beers and actually really enjoy them if properly done. Michelob Ultra Pomegranate Raspberry isn’t great by any stretch, but for a macro, mass-produced, fruit-flavored beer, it really isn’t that bad. It actually tastes a lot less fake than I had originally anticipated and they did a pretty good job of keeping the fruitiness in check. This beer has the same transparant, pale champagne as most light beers and it is generously carbonated. The aroma has fresh raspberry and that dry pome/cranberry-esque quality (pomegranate doesn’t really present a discreet aroma for me). The flavor has a slightly powdery raspberry in the front along with a trace amount of that difficult-to-describe pomegranate fruitiness and dryness. A soft light beer flavor can be found in the mid-palate. The finish has the typical graininess and the fruit flavors linger. This beer could have been a lot more horrible that in actually is. My wife and mother really seemed to enjoy it. I guess that’s what counts to some degree!
12 fl. oz. clear twist-off bottle (4.2% Alc./Vol.) from my mother. Rating #83 for this beer...
merlin48 (329), Henderson, Kentucky, USA Jul 13, 2008 Put a bottle of this in a "make your own sixpack" from a local grocery. Pours a clear pale yellow body with a quickly vanishing, tiny white head. Aroma of Raspberry Pez candy. Tastes like seltzer water lightly flavored with Pez or Jolly Rancher artificial fruitiness. Fruity sweetness is not overly done, to its credit, but why even bother! Maybe a good beginner beverage for someone that’s never been exposed to a drink containing alcohol. Not even a decent lawnmower potable.
