Sample at Brewnosers’ meeting April 2008. Pale amber colour with a mostly lasting off-white head. Fruity, caramel, and yeasty aroma. Sweetish honey, brown sugar, fruity, and yeasty flavours. Medium bodied, effervescent.

Not my favorite from Pierre, but still a very good effort. Malty, spicy, slightly lactic. Pretty close to the real thing.

Thanks for the bottle, hey_kevin. The body was medium gold with a frothy white head. The aroma was pear juice with some cinnamon and funky toffee. The taste was spicy with black pepper ans some peaches. There was also cinnamon and bread crust. PLenty of carbonation, but the body was still smooth.

Bottle from Bella Vino in Ann Arbor. Another one being rated out of order - HogTownHarry, I bet this is driving you crazy! Pours a clear bright golden colour with a pillowy white head that quickly dissipates. The clarity of the beer surprised me as I was expecting something a more wit-like appearance, but the wit connection becomes obvious in the aroma, which holds notes of yeast, spice and orange zest. The orange comes through strong in the flavour as well - sweet off the top, tart and dry in the finish - alongside some tingly spiciness and a pleasant alcohol warmth. The body is a bit on the sticky side, and it’s not quite as assertive as the Hoegaarden Grand Cru I tried recently, but it certainly holds up well against it. Nice stuff that’s a bit underrated.

Lightly hazy blonde with a thin white head. Nice coriander and curacao and spices in aroma. Spicey yeast with clear orange notes and warm alcohol. Rich and onctuous mouthfeel. Mondiale 2005.

Thin white head which dissipates quickly. Light carbonation. Malty sweet corn aroma. Kind of like a belgian triple. Little bit of fruit also. Color is a medium gold. Light malt and cereal flavor with some light fruit again. White grape and pear. Flavor starts off a little weak but finishes nicely. Minimal alcohol presence for a 8% er. FInish is slick and a little dry. Some vinuous notes at the finish. Some alcohol warming. This actually turned out to be better than I expected. Decent stuff.

Bottle. Sidetrack Bar and Grill in Ypsilanti, Michigan before heading to the 2004 MBG Summer Festival. Large creamy and smooth white head with fine-small sized bubbles that mostly diminished. Fast rising carbonation, transparent body with a yellow hue. Malty, sweet, fruity and sour aroma. Sweet and malty flavor. Smooth and somewhat of a thin and dry mouthfeel. Light bodied beer with fair lacing.

Year old bottle. Disgustingly clear, transparent and magnifying with an iridescent gold hue amidst all the suspended matter in the glass. An icy atmospheric layer comprises the head. Aroma is all gingerale with a hefty dose of coriander. Lemon sugared corn flakes, stale potato bread and ginger root give quite a pause in the aromatic incantation. Larger flavor profile slips in unexpectantly. Gummy sweetness draws on sticky, buttery vanilla almonds while dates get creamed and blended into liquefied beet sugar. Effervescent indeed, with spoonable ginger preservatives rocking the boat with cola-esque cardamom. Maple icing on a lemony-gingered-oregano pastry square elaborate on the spice anthem, most prolifically in the final minutes, along with a gentle hotness that slips away silently into the night.

Nice beer, with a heavy golden pour and frothy white head. Very potent aroma of muscat grapes and tangerine. It drinks easily, with the alcohol fairly hidden (just a slightly boozy finish in there), with flavors of coriander, a bit of anise, and a pleasantly sour finish. Better with some age on it. I’ll look for more.
