Commercial Description:
Celis White has been revived by Michigan Brewing Company with the blessing of its founder and his daughter, Christine Celis. The original Celis White, brewed in Austin, TX by Pierre Celis during the early and mid 1990's, ceased production when Mr. Celis closed his Austin microbrewery and moved to Belgium.

Cloudy straw yellow color with smallish pure white head. Aroma is malty, estery, hints of orange and lemon, touch of caramel. Flavor is malty, full of grainey malts and wheat, hint of white pepper and citrus, with a balanced, slightly sweet finish.

Dusky brass with a short-lived white head. Cloudy, yeasty bottle-conditioned look. Aromas of clove, fresh mint and banana. Tastes of clove, orange peel, ginger, wheat bread and almonds. Slightly sweet and spicy. Mouthfeel is fine for the style. Refreshing. Little discernable hop presence.

Pint at Clark’s Alehouse in Syracuse with Lubiere. Clear, light golden, no head to speak of. Yeasty, doughy nose. Sl. fruitiness and a clean finish. Med-full carbonation and med. body. A bit of orange comes through.

Called Celis White. Golden coloured, lightly hazed with a thin white head. Aroma is classic with coriander, cloves, bananas, and curacao. In mouth, a sweet malt with fruity esters, light oily mouthfeel and solvent like, curacao predominates. Big taste from the master in the Big State. On tap at Clark’s Ale House, Syracuse NY, 4$. Shared with Kprobst.

12 oz. bottle via trade with hopdog - Pours a cloudy light golden color with a faint white film for a head. The aroma is spices, yeast, and light esters. Has a sweet tangy, tart citrus and fruit flavor. Really hits the palate at first. Light body. Thanks Steve.

12 oz bottle. I love the fact the Michigan Brewing bought the rights to the Celis labels, and recipes, and has kept this classic witbier alive. This is a good example of witbeir, but some of the Celis magic is lost in my opinion. I remember the Austin, TX version of this beer being much more aromatic and flavorful. This beer pours to a very hazy, very pale, yellow color, with a thick, white head, and a moderate carbonation. The nose on this beer is inviting with light spicy aromas of corriander, and orange peel. The palate is soft, with good tart, and thirst quenching wheat malt flavor. Celis White ends with some more good wheat malt up front, and then ends with light spicy and orange flavor that lingers. This is a good witbier, but I would have liked a little more corriander and orange peel in both nose and finish. Not a good as the Celis I remember, but still an enjoyable brew, and a style that is very important to the beer world, and one that should continued to be brewed and respected.
