Commercial Description:
Celis White has been revived by Michigan Brewing Company with the blessing of its founder and his daughter, Christine Celis. The original Celis White, brewed in Austin, TX by Pierre Celis during the early and mid 1990's, ceased production when Mr. Celis closed his Austin microbrewery and moved to Belgium.

Hazy, light yellow body with a small white head. Aroma of a typical wit, with orange peel, coriander, and other spices. Flavor is quite lemony, with a bit of hops bite and lots of spicy complexity. Finish is tart and sweet.

05.07.05 12oz bottle, sample at Heavyweight open house. This famous brew has been annoyingly elusive, but, as MaiBockAddict says, eventually you’ll cross paths with all quality brews. This one is loaded with lemon and honey on the nose. Heaps of coriander. It almost seems to define the style and that verges on uninteresting. But, in fact, this beer is delicious and has a sweetness that I’m not used to in a wit; it’s still penty tart. Definitely worth a try for any fan of the style. Thanks John.

Nice moderately cloudy pale yellow with a good pure white frothy head. Aroma is moderately spicy phenolics with a good amount of clove. Wheat is noticed in the flavor and is balanced nicely with the spices and yeasty notes. Nice slightly acidic finish.

Head is initially huge, frothy, white, fully lasting. Body is hazy light yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), with a note of coriander. Flavor is lightly sweet, moderately acidic. Finish is moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. This Michigan-brewed version leaves much to be desired. Ahem.

Very good - I’m hocked that this isn’t actuallly from Belgium. Nice fruity aroma and flavor. I made my wife try it (she’s not a big beer fan) and she even liked it. Not as high in alcohol content as most Belgians, but overall, very good - bordering on excellent.
